I only gave this hotel 2 stars because they call themselves a resort. We are not angry about the fee, because we had to stay there for a wedding no matter what. Just an honest review to help others deciding to stay. You are paying a premium price for a resort, even a resort fee. It is nice, but NOT a resort. There is very little, except the price, that screams resort. While the scenery is beautiful, the accommodations are not. The rooms are old and that is shown in the bathroom fixtures and tubs. The carpets are stained and the furniture very worn. The finish has rubbed off many of the pieces. The sheets are like sandpaper. The pillow sizes and styles were mismatched, which led us to believe that they have no sets. We were there for a wedding and the Sunset Pavilion was a glorified park shelter. The bathrooms were gross. The scenery, as stated, was beautiful and the surrounding mountains beautiful, but just not worth the money. If they charged the price of a hotel room, you may be able to overlook some of the worn items, but not the dirtiness.

This resort is apparently a big destination for weddings and, for the rate this resort charges, wedding guests should be able to check into their rooms on time so that they can have the sufficient time to prepare to attend the wedding. I don't plan to ever return to this resort and, if I visit the area again, I will stay in a different hotel where the rates are a fraction of the cost and where you can get checked into your room on time. Staff was friendly enough, but I heard them tell so many customers at check in time that their room is not quite ready yet, and mine was finally ready nearly an hour late, which is when the wedding started. Perhaps the ownership/management should consider an earlier check-out time, so the cleaning staff has enough time to finish all of the rooms in order to accommodate guests arriving that day. Or maybe they should hire more cleaning staff so that the job can be completed at check in time. The room was a little disappointing as it was really nothing special and looked very dated for the cost.

This was the perfect place to stay with a group of friends for a mini reunion. The more than spacious gathering area made it easy for our group to gather together and visit and not bother others. Lovely architecture…wonderful to just look around. The grounds are beautiful. My room was very spacious and comfortable. The staff was excellent and very helpful and understanding. Our trip was cut short due to Hurricane Helene. The staff was very accommodating and did not penalize us for an early departure. Our group is already planning to gather here again next year…hopefully minus a hurricane!

Friday night seafood buffet at BTVR has changed over the years, but it’s still a great stop in the mountains! Make reservations early to assure availability! Seafoods are well prepared. Massive salad bar, and a huge dessert bar to finish off the evening meal!

The restaurant is top notch. I had a delicious salmon and my husband had the Alfredo. Our friends had the steak and the trout. The salads were delightful and the fried green tomatoes ere enough to share. Wonderful service and atmosphere! Would definitely return!

First, I would like to say that we are locals and have enjoyed dining at BVR many times. The food, service and atmosphere WAS lovely.....WAS is the KEY word. My husband and I decided it was time to enjoy this wonderful resort for an evening of good food and outstanding views. We enjoy the dining room's rustic but elegant decor and the series of windows that overlook nature and the golf course. So, on an early Thursday evening (around 5:30) we walked into the resort/dining room. The dining room, which is quite large (remember this is a state run resort), had perhaps 20 customers.....The host informed us that we would have to wait about 10 minutes to be seated as the staff was backed up. Ok.....so, we asked if we could enjoy a cocktail at the upstairs bar while we waited.....Um.....we were told that there was NO bartender. So, we sat in the lobby to wait. I, then, noticed a few customers at the front desk....they were looking around and peering behind the main desk....looking, perhaps, to check in or to request some assistance.....They waited several minutes before anyone from the BVR staff approached them. At this point, I realized we had just better leave and dine elsewhere..... This is not an inexpensive resort.....I do realize that staffing is slim these days, but, you can not expect folks to pay more $$$$ for poor service.....

We were very disappointed in our stay. We have stayed at many hotels and brands. This was our worst experience in our 40 years of marriage. The positives are incredible views, wonderful and peaceful lobby. The negatives were the room. We stayed in the cottages and the bathroom had visible mold in the shower and shower curtain. The room had a musty smell. For the price of the room one would expect better than a low level hotel chain room.

My husband and I decided to visit for the 4th of July to get a way for a couple of days, and enjoy the fireworks. We stayed in one of the cottages which is separate from the main lodge. The lodge and grounds are beautiful both inside, and outside. The landscaping is well tended. Our cottage was clean, and nicely met our needs for a weekend get away. We enjoyed the rockers on the front porch of the cottage. One of the highlights of our trip was sitting on the porch during an afternoon shower. The stairs going to the cottage needed a good sweep, and I knocked a few spider webs off the rockers but we were in a wooded area so I guess that is expected. Be aware if you book the Oak Cottage where we stayed there are a couple of flights of stairs up to the cottage units. It would be difficult to access with mobility issues. We were close enough to visit Blairsville, Elijah, and Dahlonega during our stay. The central location made seeing the local attractions easy. There are many good places to eat, and enjoy shopping in quaint small towns. My only bad experience on the trip was an accident on the way to see the fireworks at the golf course on the night of the 4th. My husband, and I were walking on the sidewalk down to where the seating was located. There was an a place where the cement sections in the sidewalk were not even where they met. The front of my sandal caught in the gap created by the unevenness, and I was thrown from my shoe. I fell hard and face-planted on the side walk. I banged up my head and nose really good, cut my toe, and bruised up my knees. I think I will survive even though my nose is swollen, and I am moving slower at the moment. It could have been a lot worse, but I do hope the resort will fix this so the same thing like this does not happen to someone older. I was lucky I was not hurt badly, and I am thankful for the kind guests hat helped me up, and to a place to sit down and gather myself. I hope to visit again in the fall but if I do I will not walk around in the Georgia night in sandals. The fireworks were beautiful, and an added bonus to the stay on Independence Day. We found it to be a unique place to stay for trip to unplug.

Goodness where do I begin? I had such high hopes for this place, but it started bad and kept getting worse. Start with the positive of this place. A. Staff overall very friendly B. The surrounding views and property grounds are gorgeous Now for the not so great; 1. It took over 25 Minutes to check in. I believe the employee was new and they were switching systems, I can understand it taking longer but that was ridiculous. (No line just took that long) 2. We were given a cottage to stay in. When we got to the cottage the first thing my husband noticed was the bed looked messed up like someone had been laying on it. The pillows were on the side of the bed which was odd. Went to check the bathroom and there was visible mold all over the shower curtain, the towels thrown on the rack like a kid folded them and they had a hint of cigarette smell on them. The cottage was very outdated but I was more concerned about the lack of cleanliness in there. We called the front desk and they immediately moved us to a 2 Queen room in the lodge with no questions ask. (Again staff very nice) 3. We had dinner reservations for our anniversary but received a call saying it was going to be a buffet instead of the normal menu. We weren’t really feeling the sea bass & beef tips so we canceled and just decided to eat at that grill on 1st floor. We ate outside. (Beautiful view) I ordered a dirty martini that came in a rock glass because they were “out of martini glasses” (odd because it wasn’t crowded at all) No big deal, but if she had told me prior I would have just changed my drink. My husband’s burger came out cold and the fries were freezing. We just wanted to get out of there. They did bring out new fries. We were told the upstairs by was open so we closed out and went upstairs to have another drink. It was 8:45 and the bar was closed. So went back downstairs. I ordered a wine, and the glass that was served to me was filthy .. not water spots either . (Even another person at the bar said “ewww”when she saw it) 4. Lastly , I was surprised by the lack of basics in the room. Shampoo and conditioner but no body wash? No laundry bag. Just weird. I was so disappointed by this place.
