Shiga no yu is all about attentive, good hearted, genuine good service. We loved the 70s vibe of the place. It is charming 70s style all the way. The meals provided were wonderful! Great portions, taste and variety! Each meal was different! The onsen was perfect at the end of each muscle weary day from skiing. Dont expect top of the range ski rentals so if that’s important to you, bring your own. But if not, just enjoy the intimate style of the place and the many ski hills to explore starting with the chair lift right outside the hotel’s door!

We went there by our locale travel agency, the hotel is hold but clean, breakfast and diner are good but announced by speaker in your room....little bit to much. But that was nothing, the problem come when the booking did by agent was not in accordance with the hotel management, they decide to charge us for one more person ! Upfully agence did a good job and refond us directly, other it was also about a service from outside the hotel , luggages conciergerie, even with a letter explain that " all is paid no need to charge the guest" they try again to steal us more money !! It was really a surprise, because in Japan all host was absolutely adorable....except here. Last things , noboby speak English and they will use Google translate only when that can suit them......be careful...

Shiganoyu Hotel is a GEM!
The hospitality (service and meals) at Shiganoyu Hotel were amazing. While we did not speak Japanese and the staff did not speak English, they used a translation tool for conversation and didn't let that be a barrier. It was so comfortable for our family of 5 - very homey and welcoming. The tea and treat upon check-in was a nice surprise and delicious. The onsen was a relaxing bonus! And the food was amazing and a wonderful experience. We had 3 breakfasts and 3 dinners and they were all different experiences! I would highly recommend this more traditional ryoken experience. The hotel is a little dated but clean. For us, it just added to the charm of this sweet hotel.
