Traditional Japanese inn, but bright, new room facilities, reasonable layout. The hot spring is comfortable. There are massage chairs in the public area on the second floor, and coffee and snacks are provided free of charge. It was a pleasant surprise compared to the first day of staying in the hotel.

There was a little bit of a problem with the pick-up at Zao Onsen Station at the beginning. The operator's English was not very good, but we were finally picked up! Then the hotel is relatively old, but very clean! On the last day when we were about to leave, we asked if we needed to pick up guests at the station, and then they just helped us to pick up at the station, so the round-trip pick-up service was very good!

The room was beautiful, with tatami, yukata, tabi, and a little bag with towels to take with you when you go to their proper outdoor onsen that's right across the street. The onsen has good amenities, has 2 baths one indoor that's around 42 - 45 degrees, and outdoor one that's usually cooler around 38 - 42. The best thing about that onsen is that there usually not many people there, often I was there alone.
The breakfast was great too, there were at least around 20 - 30 different dishes/foods to choose from. The hotel also sells discounted ski passes, and has it's own ski/snowboard rental service for lower price than most of the rental services nearby (the snowboard was of great quality, the shoes not so much).
When we checked out, the hotel arranged a van to take us to the bus terminal as well. Overall, one of the best hotels I've ever stayed at in Japan. 👌🏻

There is a hot spring downstairs. Very clean. There is a Yamagata beef restaurant nearby, and you have to queue up, but it is delicious and cost-effective, and there is Lawson downstairs. 24-hour service, very convenient

When we arrived, we were very happy to find a spacious and relaxing atmosphere.
It was a long time since we last had a private room together as a couple, so we were looking forward to it.
The view from the room was also very good and we were satisfied, but the baths were small and there were only two types, one open-air bath and one inside the building, so we were a little disappointed. However, there were two saunas, they lent us swimsuits, and we were happy that yukatas were free. However, what impressed us the most was that the staff member took a photo of the couple and asked us if we wanted one, and we were so touched that we wanted to go back again.
It was hard to take a photo of the couple, so it felt like we were traveling alone, haha
I want to go again.
Oh! I recommend the spacious space where you can read a book.

The hotel staff uses a translator to communicate, so verbal communication is no problem, and the arrangements are also very detailed. Meal times and free private bath reservation times are clearly listed on the paper. The hotel has a shuttle bus to Zao Ropeway Station, and we went there first. We went to the hotel after visiting Bingshu Plateau. Due to the heavy snow and heavy luggage, the coffee shop staff called the hotel car to pick us up, which was very nice. It is a nationally certified natural hot spring. It has a large bathhouse and a private hot spring (guests can use it once for free). It is a great experience. It is beautiful to soak in the open-air hot spring and watch the falling snow. But the hot spring floor is slippery and my sister slipped and hit her, so be careful when walking.

GGuest UserThe staff were very kind, and although our itinerary required frequent transportation, they were happy to provide pick-up and drop-off services many times. They also booked the tickets for the Zao Mountain cable car on our behalf, and also booked the return tickets online for us. Upon departure, a dedicated staff member accompanied us to the station and communicated with the station service center staff in Japanese. They provided delicious breakfast and dinner, and also had a dedicated translator to help us communicate with them. There were so many elaborate and lovely decorations in the hot spring hotel, which created a quiet and calm atmosphere. The soundproofing was also good, and the bed sheets and comforters were very comfortable. Overall, we are very satisfied! This is a must-visit hotel! Thank you for your hospitality! 🫶🏻
GGuest UserExcellent stay in a nice clean single room on the 7th floor which also has an ice machine and vending machine and microwave on the same level. Other levels have coin operated laundry machines too.
Very conveniently connected to the Yamagata Shinkansen station!!
CcckentThe hotel is in a great location, making it easy to find food nearby. The room was clean, comfortable, and well-equipped with many free amenities, including KOSÉ facial products. The breakfast was also delicious.
The reception staff were friendly and helpful. We were a group of 14 people, and they had arranged our rooms ahead of time, so the check-in process was fast and efficient.
Overall, I had a wonderful stay and would definitely recommend this hotel!
GGuest UserWe had a very pleasant stay at Richmond Yamagata. The room is very spacious, clean, enjoyed the massage chair etc. It was comfortable. Service from lobby check in and restaurant are friendly and nice. Breakfast spread is indeed very good. This is first time staying at Richmond hotel and in future will consider staying at Richmond chain hotels. I can’t recall anything bad about the hotel.
GGuest UserEven though we called the hotel stating that we would be late for the check-in and dinner as there was heavy snow in the highway. The staff postponed it to 730. However, the snow was so heavy, we lost our way in town and we arrived at 8:10. The staff saying that we were too late and rejected to provide any food for us. we had to walk downhill to the town to find our own dinner. however, on the second night of our stay, we noticed that the other guests were having dinner at 9:10 when we passed by the restaurant. We know that we were late, but I believed that hotel is in the hospitality industry, the staff have to be considerate to the guests. as we were not meant to be late on purpose, just because of the bad weather outside, we couldn’t drive fast. We were in the highway 2 1/2 hours without any food and drink in the hope of arriving on time.
HHUIQINIt snowed ❄️ and fell on the road. Now my feet hurt so much. I may go to the hospital tomorrow. There are surprises in life.
Environment: not very good
Service: Good
Facilities: good, under renovation
Hygiene: good
TTeoGeraldA wonderful place to stay in. The service was fantastic. The room was huge, much too large for just a solo traveler like me but it would have been perfect if I had brought my wife and child along. The onsen quality was great, albeit the fittings at the shower area were a bit old. The food was hands down amazing and featured great local produce. Honestly there was too much for one person to finish! What I especially liked was that they had a separate room on the first floor where if it was too early for you to check in, you could drop your luggage off, change, and then grab your gear and head to the slopes. Same thing if you intend to charge the slopes a bit more on your last day, just leave your stuff in the storage room, hit the slopes, come back and change out, hit the onsen for the last time, then go off. Definitely recommending this place to my friends visiting Zao.
Nnamonakihitocan access the hotel from the station without going outside which is very good in winter. room window facing bldg hence no sightseeing but there is free sightviewing on top of the bldg.
GGuest UserWalking distance from JR station, excellent breakfast, clean and comfortable and large room. warm room during winter time, helpful and nice staff, hotel just next to bus terminal to other prefectures, e.g. Sendai.
