The Segond Hotel

Quite a charming hotel in the middle of Gozo island! The hotel is located in a small town with not much to do. You need to get to Victoria if you want do have some fun. The rooms are very comfortable and cosy. New decoration and attention to the details. The staff is very polite. A special word of gratitude to the young man Lucas (from Argentina) at the reception. He was super polite and a pleasure hosting us. Breakfast is nice with quite a variety of options.

The hotel was really nice, everything really modern and with all comfortables. Cleaning ok, maybe something to improve but nothing bad. Breakfast very good, they had everything in buffet. Position good, no complaints at all!! The only annoying thing was the light of the security that all the night was green and red, really annoying for people that like to spleep in the darkness.

Cleanliness is far below the industry standard, our room was not cleaned in our 3 day stay, cups left dirty, tea/ coffee not restocked, bathroom not cleaned, side tables not wiped. The only things done were replacing the garbage bag, giving us clean towels and doing the bed. I highlighted these issues to the management. Forget about the plunge pool on the roof, it is very very small! Not the hotels fault but there is a lot of construction work taking place in the area. If you still can cancel your booking and go elsewhere you should seriously consider it. Breakfast was okay but there was no variety from day to day. An example is no bacon was available during our 3 day stay, eggs only available hard boiled. Bread variety same every single day. No fresh Maltese products like irkotta or gbejna available.

It felt more like being in a hostel than in a hotel. Minimal staff. Nobody mans the reception from the afternoon onwards and check in is online. We had requested 2 rooms near each other upon booking. This was totally ignored and not only did they not give us 2 rooms next to each other or on different floors at least. They gave us 2 rooms in 2 separate buildings!! This was not convenient at all. No apology nothing and they didn’t even try to see what they could do to fix their mistake. When we asked them to fix their mistake, they claimed all rooms were full and just shrugged their shoulders. So they had simply ignored our request from the start. Breakfast was a disorganised mess. There is no staff in sight to greet you or show you to a table. You are on your own and there was total chaos with all the guests there. Breakfast is nothing to write home about. My AC broke down during my first day after the power suddenly went off and back on again. I reported this immediately and I was reassured that it would be fixed. It wasn’t fixed for my entire stay! I was taken for a ride for two days by the same man who reassured me twice that it would be fixed but it wasn’t. The woman behind a desk downstairs simply just didn’t care at all. Actually both of them just didn’t care. Had they cared they would have made it a point to get a technician to fix it - they had 2 days to do so! Then they claimed it could only be fixed on the day when I had to check out. I asked to change my room but they claimed they were full. I was also ready to downgrade to a smaller room as long as the AC worked in a smaller room. They do not care that people spend good money to enjoy all amenities. The full price was paid so I expected all the amenities I was promised I would have upon booking, especially those amenities that are important for me. Do not bother to book a room at this disorganised hostel. Poor value for money and terrible management.
