My partner and myself went for a meal at the Crown last night. Saturday and the place was very very quiet. This should have been a warning. We were shown to our table for two in the conservatory, at the very back of the restaurant, although most of the tables were free in the restaurant ? My partner had trouble to squeeze in to his seat, as all the room was taken up with a large fire extinguisher next to his seat, and a child’s highchair hanging off the wall, the legs having been used to keep the fire exit closed. I asked to be moved as it was also quite cold as well. The waitress moved us to the restaurant. We asked for the drinks menu and or wine menu, they didn’t have one. I don’t think I’ve ever been to a restaurant that didn’t have a wine/drinks menu. We managed to order a bottle of wine without knowing what choice was on offer. We had nachos to start between us which were nice. But when the main course came, I had ordered medium rare Ribeye steak, it arrived medium to well done very thin, and I doubt it was 10ozs in weight. The onion rings were overcooked. My partners Crown burger was mediocre at best. Neither meal were worth the expensive price they were charging, my partners onion rings were greasy and not very nice. I had apple crumble which was much better with a small scoop of ice cream. I did speak to the manager who apologised and took 10% off the food bill. But I did ask him why there was no wine/drinks list. He said he had been too busy over Christmas and January with functions to have time to do one ? I think there was a function that evening upstairs .We hadn’t visited The Crown for a few years, and I don’t think we will be visiting again in a hurry. The standards seem to have really gone down unfortunately. There are a lot of other local restaurants we can frequent which are a lot more convenient, and more value for money.

We celebrated our daughter in laws fortieth birthday in the function room , With family and friends . And oh what a night from start to finish . The room was great well, stocked bar and very friendly staff. The food was amazing we had the steak pie and it was top notch . The gluten free option was good too. We stayed over and our room was clean , and warm . The breakfast was well cooked and good quality. Well served by Laura too. Special thank you to Laura for all her help in booking and organising everything . You are a star. Thanks to all the team at the Crown .. you are all friendly and hard working .

Crap staff service The owner was vile, with clearly anger issues, when I rang his mobile number (which came with the booking confirmation) instead of the accommodation itself After being shown my room, there was no batteries in the remote, I looked for a different remote in case it was the wrong one, then found dirty male pants, in a draw. I went to go to reception to informed them of the issues but met the staff member who showed me to my room half way up the stairs with other customers I politely and quietly told her of the problems and was told it would be sorted, I went into the empty pub underneath sat (in full view) and had A beer while the problems were resolved, the girl who I spoke to came back behind the bar and started chatting and going on their phones, I presumed someone else was sorting out my request I sat in the bar for 45 minutes nobody said a word to me, I went back to my room the key wouldn’t work, I called another member of staff she couldn’t do it asking if I had the right key, but then it opened, the remote was still where I’d left it and the pants, I asked her to sort it out for me, she took the remote and pants (hanging off one finger) another 15 minutes later I’m still sitting on the end of my bed with no remote, I walked down into the bar the two staff were in a huddle with another person chatting phones out, upon seeing me the second girl prompted “oh I was just coming to see you, to tell you we are moving you” by then it was too late there’s only so much u can take

Good value and comfortable. My room was fairly small but comfortable, with a well lit desk for doing some work. The eveing meal was typical basic pub food, but quite OK. I will stay here again next time I'm working in this area.

Cheap and generally cheerful Generally acceptable and it was cheap. Surprised that restaurant was closed when i arrived in the mid evening (a Monday) and there is no breakfast option. Some light bulbs were not working. Staff generally pleasant, although they called me at 9am to ask where i was when i hadn't yet checked out (10am checkout!). Convenient and cheap for what i wanted, which was basically a bed.
