The Station Hotel

2 night stay with 2 children The accommodation was perfect, really spacious and clean. Great parking. Modern and fresh decor. Close to Clumber Park, which was the reason we stopped there. The only negative thing was that the shower was luke warm, I mentioned this to a neighboring visitor who said hers was the same. I was only there for 2 nights so coped but it wasn't pleasant as I felt cold in the shower. It has been capped at that temp so needs upping a bit to make a more pleasurable experience for guests. Had I have been there longer I would have made an effort to tell staff at the time.

On entering the hotel there is an unpleasant smell, a bit like old-fashioned urinal cake/cleaning fluid. The decor is also incredibly dated, giving the overall impression of having travelled back to circa 1985. We were here for lunch. The menu is quite small, usual pub suspects available. I had a roast, which was a generous portion. Unfortunately the vegetables were all brick hard, completely undercooked. My mum had soup, which came with a piece of heat and serve "baguette". This was so white and unbaked as to be inedible. The soup was greasy, and with an unappealing texture. This would be less galling if it had been incredibly cheap, but it wasn't.

The room was a bit tired there was a kettle but no tea or coffee and the bed was uncomfortable resulting in very little sleep

This is a very run down hotel. The room we were in was very damp, the paint peeling of the walls, curtians badly faded. The skirting boards all damaged not sure if the are rotting or just bashed. The public spaces were OK and the staff helpful, the restaurant good.

What a find! Friendly staff and fellow guests, great looking food and a nice bar selling real beer. Excellent value in a very handy location. Spot on.
