Accommodation was very dirty and didn’t look like it had been cleaned in a long time. Bed sheets weren’t clean and there was dirt and old cups behind the bed. Would not recommend this place.

So sad to see such a lovely hotel look so run down. Im sure at one time it was a beautiful hotel. The manager made our stay, he was friendly, with a great sense of humour and he couldnt do enough to make us welcome. Our room was acceptably clean, warm and the water hot. Mattress /pillow protector covers would be an improvement. Everything was very basic but served our purpose on this occasion. Wouldn't recommend if you are fussy!

Avoid Avoid Avoid Although I have given a 1 rating I tried to give none but you cannot do that so gave minimum allowed. I am not from the area so when I booked the hotel for me & my friend I had read some reviews but they were mixed - I so wish I had gone with the bad reviews Checked in 07/8/24 at 14.30hrs, went out to meet friends, returned at 18.30hrs & checked out at 19.30hrs It is not fit for humans or animals come to think of it, my dogs bed is cleaner than the mattresses there. Dirty blood stained flea bed bug mattresses Blood stained bed base, broken table/dresser, noisy chimney directly outside window letting fumes in, stairs that I can only imagine how the people on the Titanic felt, cracked ceilings, dirty entrance door to the room. When we told the guy on reception he asked why I was 100% honest and he just shrugged his shoulders. Their reservation team asked for the photos via email & supposedly took it to management I got a response 09/8/24 saying we didn’t qualify for a refund but we could have 15% discount on our next stay !!! Are these people for real- I would not stop there if it was free.

Visited my birth town Wisbech for the Rock Festival, but since my parents had a full house, we decided to leave our kids with them, and stay at the historic Rose and Crown, about which we've read so much in Andy Ketley's book series on local pubs. The economic state of Wisbech hasn't been kind to the Rose and Crown (or the town in general), and the (hopefully temporary) loss of restaurant and bar at the Rose and Crown is very sad. That said, our brief stay was fine. It was, in effect, no frills, and what you get is similar to a stay in a Travelodge, but in a far-more-interesting building. Mario, the gentleman on the desk, was lovely. We will likely stay again.

Horrible hotel, the old and fussy smell was disgusting. There was no bar and no breakfast, but it says on website there is. Had to pay extra for a deluxe room, dread to think what a standard was like. Pillows where flat, and in the morning there was a airwig. The worst hotel I've ever stayed in.

I have been staying at the Rose & Crown, on and off for over 20 years and seen change as you would expect in that time. My return this week, was nothing more than terrible, disappointing and never to be repeated under the current owners (apparently Egyptians running it into the ground having made their money from a 'Government Agreement' to house certain people, which ended recently). The Manager is trying his best, whom I met several years ago and is wasted at this hotel. There is no food, drink, just the rooms which still smell of bleach, clearly from a recent deep clean. Bulbs missing from lamps and lights, stains on furniture and a general feeling of an unloved and tired establishment. The old bar in The Trumpet Hall, where I have enjoyed many an evening with a cold one, is piled high with old furniture, so sad to see it this way. A sorry state for such an iconic building........until it changes, I will not return, ever.

The WiFi worked on one side of the hotel. The bedding was clean..! Disposable cups with the hospitality tray. The outer door had a digital code lock which had to be used after 8pm as main entrance is locked from then on. It is full of character. As it's been built since 1435. The ensuite could have had a better extractor fan as it was extremely noisy.

Very odd hotel. It’s full of character, ancient and sprawling but it’s completely under-utilised and decrepit. I understand that it’s being run as a budget hotel without any extra facilities but why I have no idea! They have two restaurants, a huge bar, a “trumpet hall”, a massive meeting/conference room, big courtyard, multiple more outbuildings/extensions/annexes that are just closed off and it feels abandoned. I understand in this climate restaurants might not be viable / unprofitable to run, but at least convert it into more bedrooms, or something, or sell it to someone who will run it properly, it’s a lovely building that could use a face lift for sure but it’s a complete waste at the moment. Room cheap and well located so can’t complain on that front and the receptionist was friendly and helpful

Set in an old period type large courtyarded building in the heart of a fairly dreary town centre. This budget hotel had generally everything you needed but no restaurant nor bar. The facade and the internal stairs gave you the impression it simply could not be updated but it did have a quaint feel about it. The guy on reception was friendly and good humoured and I was briefed on security and locking of doors and gates at 8pm each evening. I bumped into one guest that seemed he wasn’t your usual hotel dweller ( if you understand my meaning. The bed was comfortable and sheets and towels were clean but I wouldn’t say the room was spotless as the carpet in the room could have been cleaner. Dust on the top of the shower cubicle and behind the bed on a wooden ledge. Heating was good and ran all night. Tea and coffee facilities were one teabag, no coffee. Window would not close properly. I stayed in room 303 on the top floor and heard banging doors in the early hours and I’m partially deaf! I suppose for £32 a night you couldn’t have it all! Car parking at the rear courtyard off Nene Quay (B198) was easy to find and park in. I would deem this accomodation ok but could do better.
