It was not just the spectacular home. It was not just because the bed, the pillows, the breakfast were perfect. It was about the way we were treated, the welcoming, the history and how we immediately fell in love with the entire experience. This was one of the best choices we made this trip. I would highly recommend this property without any hesitation. I want to thank Richard and his partner for this once in a lifetime experience.

Staying at the Alexander Mansion Bed and Breakfast was like stepping back to a time when stylish lifestyles were the norm for prominent people and decadent choices for food, drink, leisure and social activity were delivered with a bit of pomp and grandeur. Richard, the innkeeper, welcomes you with a combination of charm and wit while delivering a tour of the magnificent mansion. The decor is in keeping with the era when the Alexander's lived there and plenty of public spaces are available to enjoy including an exceptional porch that circles a large area. Our room was spacious and I especially liked the incredible sunroom off the bedroom which was perfect for reading or sipping a cup of coffee or tea. The Tea Room was also a favorite of mine where china tea cups were provided with a large assortment of flavored teas. In fact, Richard has gone to great lengths to provide niceties for his guests such as wine served upon arrival in the impressive library or chocolates and a sip of liqueur on the bedstand at bedtime. The 4 course brunch is definitely a highlight with delicious food served on beautiful dinnerware and beverages in lovely glassware. We thoroughly enjoyed conversing with the other couples staying at the Mansion while we dined. The entire experience was wonderful and went beyond our expectations. My husband and I are looking forward to returning soon to be pampered and charmed at the Alexander Mansion Bed and Breakfast again when visiting Winona.

Some B&Bs are nice, some are excellent, and a few provide an outstanding experience. In that final category is ALEXANDER MANSION B&B in Winona, Minnesota. The house (ca.1886) is spectacularly restored to its Victorian splendor. The innkeeper, Richard, is exceptionally welcoming and congenial. He regales guests with insights into the history and character of the house and offers excellent recommendations on restaurants and places of interest (and even brings Bailey’s and chocolates to your room in the evening!). Breakfasts are elegant, sumptuous and delicious. We stayed there two nights in May 2025 and highly recommend Alexander Mansion B&B. Furthermore, Winona is an attractive small city, with many architecturally interesting buildings (e.g., St. Stanislaus Basilica, Merchants Bank), museums (e.g., MN Marine Art Museum, Kashubian Cultural Institute & Polish Museum), parks, shops and restaurants. It is in one of the most stunning sections of the Mississippi River Valley with high bluffs and extensive waterways. Visit and enjoy yourself! - Jack and Deborah, Roseville, Minnesota

Spending 2 days at this amazing B n B was just the recharge we needed. Richard and David leave no detail to chance. The breakfast was spectacular in every way. Richard is a wealth of information and does everything possible to provide the experience his guests are looking for. We will definitely be back.

We found this wonderful place by accident & truly loved every moment we were there!!!! We stayed in the Judge Thomas Suite since it was the only room available on short notice. It was huge, very clean, comfortable & very quiet. The entire Mansion is unbelievable - so rich in history & charm. The breakfast was wonderful! Richard is charming & very attentive. He makes one feel very much at home & comfortable. The location is very near the Mississippi River and downtown area. We had great evening & morning strolls. Winona is a great community that's fun to explore. We'd highly recommend staying here & will be back again!

Absolute best bed-and-breakfast
Went on a motorcycle run. With the Wife the flood run absolutely beautiful place a true gem very authentic Alexandria mansion. Very positive experiences made us a breakfast for all the guests. We all sat on together and had a four course breakfast each day. Nicest old man that ran the place. He had regular traditions that he performed for all the guests can’t tell you the secrets.

Fabulous
Our experience was absolutely perfect. Richard, the Innkeeper, was an amazing host. He gave us great recommendations around town for dinner and there were many wonderful touches included in the stay. We also got to learn a lot about the house. The breakfast was phenomenal. Richard goes above and beyond for everyone who stays at the mansion. I cannot emphasize enough what a pleasure it was to stay here.
