Winchelsea Lodge

Location could not fault, service from staff very poor, initial website gave incorrect information on facilities saying rooms accessible with no stairs, on arrival room was up a flight of stairs and stairs in the room also. I would not have booked location if this was correctly stated on website. Once arriving brought to staff attention, to say not helpful would be an understatement , they didn’t even want to acknowledge there was an issue with booking. Spent the night stuck in the room so overall experience was a waste of time. Said I could go elsewhere but unwilling to refund cost already paid so choice either end up out of pocket or stay and spend the night watching the tele. Very disappointing.

Hotel is nicely situated for Rye and the surrounding area. Comfortable, friendly, and stayed for 3 nights. Food is good, and the breakfast sausages are exceptionally good! Looked forward to them in the morning! Evening meals are of good quality and quantity and discovered a really great lager that was new to me called Madri, which you might think is a Spanish lager, but its, a joint venture and brewed in Tadcaster, Yorkshire! Would recommend the Hotel for a friendly, adequate and convenient place to stay. Great for couples, its quiet and staff and management friendly.

Have just got home from having one of the best roast dinners I have had in a very long time. It was all delicious. I can't wait to go again for a lovely carvery dinner. I am happy to highly recommend this place 😀...............................

My partner made me aware that the staff sent us a passive aggressive email saying how they got 5 complaints about a group of six staying at the lodge. We were accused of having a party until early hours and being inconsiderate. When in reality we played a board game and when the neighbouring visitors alerted us that our laughs were too loud we stopped playing the game and shortly all went back to our rooms. I found it so unprofessional of the lodge to send us a compliant email when we bought them so much custom! We were accused of being rowdy in the lounge of the lodge when we were never there!! Instead of the owners of the lodge asking for our side of the story they threw a long list of accusations against us. Sure enough to say we will never be staying here again, and if laughing is too loud then the lodge seriously needs to consider fixing their extremely thin walls.

WOW!!! Had a lovely stay for three nights! The breakfast was superb, so much to choose from!! Never seen such a wonderful selection. Full English and fruits, etc etc… The quality was amazing. The evening meals were also superb! Staff so friendly and attentive. Room clean and a lovely comfortable bed…. So i will again type WOW!! Highly recommend this fabulous place… Can’t wait to come back again! Thank you to all the staff and owner for such a lovely stay. See you again as soon as i can!

We tried this place for Sunday carvery hearing so many good reviews but ended up disappointed. Walked in to a lovely reception from a young man behind the bar. And then the most frosty glared reception from to members of staff sat with two older men (assuming management) Carvery’s ordered. Fab. Headed round to where it was no chef. He was on the level below sitting on a table. Jumped up to come and Serve us. No washing of hands. No gloves on and cutting away holding the meat with one hand and knife in the other. 🤢 normally a carving fork is used surely?! Did want to say anything as didn’t want to upset family I was with but didn’t eat my meat just the veg (which was really tasty) To me if that’s what happens infront of you what actually happens in the kitchen

We loved the place. We only spent one night here and it was a last minute booking. The room was basic but comfortable, loved the bed and the view. Tea and coffee facilities are available inside. The restaurant is very good with large portions for the evening meals and breakfast is great. The staff is very kind and the whole decore of the place is a little motel like, which I loved. If I’m again in the area I will stay again
