Rowhill Grange Hotel & Utopia Spa

I stayed in the hotel for 4 days (3 nights) last week during a residential training course. After the first day's training, I went into my room for a nap, and when I woke up, I discovered several bites on my right leg. This was the beginning of a series of issues that made my stay extremely unpleasant. I noticed a half-full bottle of water left by the previous guest, the towels were dirty, the shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel bottles were all unsealed and half-used. After discussing with family members who showed the picture of the bites to doctors, the bites were likely bed bug bites, and I requested a room change in the morning. Initially, my request was denied as the reception claimed that all rooms were fully booked. It was only after escalating to the manager that I was granted a room change, but the General Manager was not informed, and my previous room was cleaned for the next guest. This is the first time in my life to get bed bug bites, and I didn't expect how bad the symptoms could develop (see pics). The bites develop over the next few days when I had to stay in the hotel for the training course and continues afterwards. Another participant from the training who stayed in the hotel also got bitten, on the the top of the right arm and neck. On the fourth morning, after my insistence, the General Manager was finally informed, and pest control was called in for an investigation, however, only scheduled in 3 days on the following Monday. The General Manager claimed that bed bugs happen in hotels, and they appear mostly on the chest, and after that I found it hard to proceed the conversation with him... He promised to come back on this reported issue but never did. Very disappointing.

Really lovely spa, really kind they upgraded me to a king room. Had a lovely stay.

Such a fabulous find - room service was perfect and the comfort in my room was just what I needed after a long day working.

Stayed x 1 night . Room was at the top of the hotel - felt like I was in the loft. Steep stairs upto room as lift didn’t go to the top floor - stairs immediately outside door which wasn’t the best! Breakfast lovely - but if you don’t order exactly as the menu states everything is extra which I’ve not come across in any hotel before. Wouldn’t want to stay in the same room again but would probably stay at the hotel if in the area.

When first arriving I was told I had booked a suite in the main house, which I hadn’t I asked on the phone for the Groombridge suite. This was then rectified. After checking into the room which from afar looks great, I felt disappointed for the £495 I had paid for a midweek night. Decor is tired and dated, staining all over the carpet, tv has no signal, no water in fridge, bathroom full of limescale and grime. Since arriving there has been dirty plates outside rooms in hallway which didn’t move until checkout. Was given no slippers, and told non available so walked barefoot around hotel and outside. Staff in spa unwelcoming and not professional, relaxation room was full of people on their phones, which also were not on silent. Good parts were, the afternoon tea and the bar food. Overall very over priced, the amount paid for one night would go far to update the room and attention to detail. I have been coming to rowhill for over 10 years and not one thing has been updated, slowing going downhill unfortunately.

I can’t recommend Rowhill Grange highly enough. We had our wedding there in May 2024 and had the most perfect day. Emilia and the team have been fantastic from start to finish, I would also shout out to Karis who was amazing on the day and kept everything running like clockwork. The package we booked included John the DJ who was also fantastic along with all the staff at Rowhill. We honestly couldn’t have wished for anything more.

Nice hotel with lovely grounds. Our group enjoyed private dining and the dinner was very,very good, as was the service. Breakfast was also good. Rooms very comfortable, but lack sockets, standard or usb bedside - best way to rectify would be to put bedside lamps with usb integrated. Bar experience was nice, but please put in a draft beer or two. Would stay again.

After reading mixed reviews i was a bit sceptical about staying here, however, myself and my partner had the most relaxing overnight stay! Check in was very efficient, the room was clean and spacious, service excellent at dinner, spa area was lovely and relaxing (highly recommend the facial!) - cannot wait to return!
