It's the first time we have visited Willington Hall. We had afternoon tea for two. It was really nice. We have quite a few afternoon teas throughout the year. This was one of the best! The room is very nicely decorated. We had a window seat, with a great view.

Stayed for one night food was really good. Nice setting thought the French manager was really friendly and welcoming. Would definitely return. The building is 200 years old so the rooms are a bit dated but clean and tidy they also serve real ales and the choice of drinks are good. Thank you

Had a few drinks and a bar snack. The building and surroundings are simply stunning. Service was welcoming and excellent. Food was top notch and prepared with care + high quality. Couldn’t recommend highly enough as a change from boring chains. Quintessential Cheshire

Such a shame that the female version of Basil Fawlty is still alive, 60 years after being given free management consulting advice about how NOT to run a hotel. Beginning with being locked out of the building itself. No intercom when you do find the front door shut so that when you ring the buzzer it can be answered. To be told by Mrs. Grumpy that it's not possible to put a Ring camera up because the building is 200 years old stretches all reality, especially as there are CCTV cameras all over the place. Or maybe, when reception gives you the key, how about making it perfectly clear that if you want to go out at night, you must tell them? Then next morning, after having been reassured in an earlier email that breakfast would be available beginning at 0800, to find the dining room door locked, and when searching for staff ten minutes later and asking if it was true that breakfast started at 0800 to be told, haughtily "yes but not on the dot". Michel, the doorman was helpful, Emma, one of the dining room staff was delightful. But management should give significant consideration to selling the hotel to people who would take delight in running a hotel as opposed to making it clear to guests that they are an imposition. I chose to stay here because of previous excellent service for funeral receptions. I now realize that the sombre attitude of staff then was not just reserved for funerals. Such a shame because the building, despite its shortcomings, is an impressive stately home, and the grounds make you feel like Lord of the Manor. It's just that you don't have the staff to reinforce the impression.

Not sure how to start this review as a little convoluted. I only love to give good, but feel a little lost with this one. What a charming house with lots of character, but some a tlc required in areas. Such a perfectly quaint venue for a significant function. The grandure is exquisite, the grounds are lovely and such potential with foundations for a perfect audience. We felt like Lord and Lady of the Manor on entrance, such a lovely greet from the array of staff that seem to love their roles within this beautiful home of elegance. The restaurant and bar are of beauty and age gone by, classic old days familiaria. The maître d was of exceptional knowledge and we had the most interesting conversations. We had an afternoon tea, which as pretty as it was and tasty, it was incredibly disappointing in comparison to the many we have done, in fact the most basic, however it did not affect the ambience of the perfect venue. Afternoon tea rewarded us with no tea or coffee. Had to request the prosecci, but feel it was because we took a glass of wine to the table. We ate 3 courses from the same plate, 2 slices of bread each for the sandwiches and a nibble of a cake, which we felt was totally inappropriate considering the price of the tea. Only 3 tables in the restaurant after 15mins of seating and one table decided to take a sales call out very loud and very rudely talk openly out to the room and then ring 2 other people taking 30 mins which completely shattered the atmosphere. It was the most rudest situation we have ever sat witnessing in a restaurant. We decided to leave sadly spoiling our special valentines lunch. The grounds are beautiful, it's winter so nearing getting ready for some garden TLC and the outbuildings and the lawns you can see the potential of this magnificent home. Dinner was quiet, the house was quiet, conversation was lovely with the hotel team. Dinner was disappointing. We had fish, chips and mushy peas. We was so upset, but could not complain, as the staff were so lovely. It was barely warm the food and chips undercooked and the haddock had a disinfectant taste to it, I left it and the peas were tinned. Disappointed we just decided to go bed. Bed by 7pm sadly the next issue hit home the mattress was so soft and springy we both sank to the floor. The bedframe screeched at every move beyond recognition, I took a video myself sat on the side moving. Ridiculous. The room was like a suite, perfect. but the mattress was horrific. We had no sleep and had to leave 6am for work. The room required attention but was large, lovely facilities, but could do with maybe more than 2 teabags and some decaf coffee. The tap doesn't run cold to drink, tepid warm, we tried relentlessly. Had to go seek batteries for the tv control . The bathroom was damp smelling, but that's the age of the house. This is such a beautiful venue, but think more a place for weddings and big functions. Day to day it was cheap and good value and that reflected

We stayed for one night. What beautiful surroundings nestled in the fabulous Cheshire countryside. We’d walked along the Sandstone Trail during the day before our arrival. Lunch at the Boot Inn. We had a Classic room which was really warm and so comfortable. There was a large shower with very hot water!!!! Our meal in the lovely dining room with stunning views of the countryside was delicious. Plenty of choices for dinner and breakfast. The staff were very helpful. Thank you Daisy. We’ll definitely stay again; one member of staff willingly showed us some of the other rooms before we left for Chester. A very relaxing two day break!
