Willingham House

The bed was comfortable but standard double not king size as indicated when booking. Set in very good grounds. Say its a B&B but there is no breakfast. Checking was lock box, very hard to open for key; and near impossible to close when you leave and have to put key back in lock box. Lid of toilet seat kept closing while you were using it. Shower very good but hard to work out how to get it to hot water. TV had no normal TV, seemed only to access smart TV if you had an account or LG TV. Only one small carton of milk so had to buy some. Small deck but chair very uncomfortable. No comfortable seating, had to sit on bed. Room was in side annex and a bit small and shabby. Glad we were only booked for one night, would not have stayed for a secound night. Will not be staying here again. Or recomending it. Over priced for what they offer. Pity, as with the grounds, better rooms and breakfast it could be a wonderful place to stay.

Beautiful building and grounds very spacious with lots of character on the outskirts of Cambridge. Parts of the building have been refurbished to a really high standard. The manager is very friendly and accommodating would highly recommend for a stay.

What a beautiful property! I had to book here last minute, the house is under construction, looks like it was just taken over with new Owners. The manager was so accommodating. It’s self check-in, which was nice and easy. The garden was massive. Can’t wait to come back when the renovation is done.

Ideal for one night only, no thrills or on a budget. The lack of the personal touch was very apparent. It was all self check in and self service breakfast. We did'nt see the owner. A friendly face is always good.

Not bad but could be a lot better. Liked · Quiet. Located in a pleasant village. The place has character, unlike a Travelodge, which are mostly all the same. Two food shops nearby open till 10pm. Village Bakery close by. Indian restaurant very close. Pub within a 2-3 minute drive or a 10 minute (or less) walk. Also liked the (relatively) reasonable rates. I'm including a photo of the picturesque 'stable' where there is a basic 'contiental' breakfast. I come to Cambridge frequently and would consider staying again but I would hope that points below would be adressed. Disliked · 1. Sheets and Duvet cover had the feeling of not being professional washed by a proper laundry service. These need to go to a professional laundry service so they come back nice and fresh and crisp. Also, the detergent used is too 'perfumy'. Sheets should just smell neutral and fresh, but not perfumed. This is not something that a hotel should skimp on. 2. There is no welcome or greeting of any kind at the B & B. This feels cold and a bit unnerving. 3. Heat was not on at night at all. From about 10:30 pm to 7am. I know it's expensive to heat at the moment, but still... 4. Nice that breakfast is offered, but unfortunately, none of the breakfast items are very good. Cereal is some cheap brand, and pastries are of the packaged and preserved kind. You're better off going to get a fresh pastry at the nearby bakery. (Yes, an actual bakery about 3 minutes walk.) Overall there was a bit of a feeling of neglect and also a bit of trying to run the place remotely, 'on the cheap'. The place has a few things going for it but could be so much better. Hope to see some improvement on my next visit!

Found this B&B (small hotel really) to spend a few days in while in Cambridgeshire, a few miles from Cambridge, Huntingdon and Ely and at a really splendid price point, including a Continental breakfast. The location is really great, set in its own grounds in a quiet street in Willingham [small village with its own local bakery, nearby pub / restaurant (bit pricey but good)], nearby P&R to get easily to Cambridge and other locations. Self check-in and serve yourself breakfast. Attention to customer needs is high - my wife cannot eat gluten - when this was mentioned during booking I was assured that they would provide a selection of gluten free breakfast products and this was done. So basically a frills-free, characterful small B&B with a difference. The rating would have been 5 star (which it certainly was for value) except we had a problem with the water in the shower, where it was impossible to get the water to mix at a warm temperature: it was either very hot (near scalding) or totally cold. Something to do with local water pressures according to the manager. Not good - the hot water could be a big problem, especially with young children, and probably needs to be replaced with an electric power shower. (This was in our room - not certain if it was the same in other rooms). All-in-all, a value for money place for one or several nights, and I would gladly go back there again.
