Our unit was fine but we had 5, so one person had to sleep on the pull out couch so it was inconvenient for the rest of us to watch tv without sitting on a bed. The property is smaller than most of the other Marriott's, but the golf was good, too cold to swim but the pool was small. Nice walking path among large beautiful homes.

The interior of the taverns/buildings that are available to guests are desperately in need of repair. Weathered and broken. IDEA!!! Hire out the Marriott corporation to update your guest rooms with an old world charm in accordance to Williamsburg standards. Bathrooms are in need of major updating. Williamsburg preservation can then concentrate on all other buildings and archeology.

This is an excellent property off the beaten path. It is quiet and nicely maintained, and the rooms are beautiful and a home-away-from-home environment. We must give a massive shout-out to Kentell, who was super helpful in assisting us in finding Independence Manor. We stopped him in his golf cart going the opposite way, and he did not direct us but said, "Follow me." I will lead you to Independence. He made our arrival so much easier, and he and other ground workers, security, housekeeping, you name it, support their guests. You can see and feel their appreciation for guests staying here. After spending a week in Hawaii at the Marriott Ko'Olina Resort, we were pleasantly surprised to see such excellent accommodations in our backyard from Richmond. We have already booked another getaway at Marriott Ford's Colony. Thank you for a wonderful vacation stay. This is what an Owner stay should look and feel like. v/r, Dr. Ken and Lorna King

As a Marriot owner I was surprised when I asked for extra towels the front desk said an extra charge for a few towels . With a family of four 1 towel per gust . Also do place is in no man’s land. Not worth staying for a week unless you’re booked with daily sightseeing.

Stay away! You have to pay for bath towels! But they do not tell you this until you are already in your room and ask for additional towels. You are told to wash them if you want more and if you are in a studio you are told to use the laundry facilities in the building. None of this is on their website, or on your email confirmation or even told to you upon check in. You may as well stay at an Air B&B and have more space and save money. Construction going on, ping pong table broken, large groups at the pool using glass wine glasses, **** smell in hallways, loud groups screaming, the list goes on…go some where else, you’ll be happier.

We were en route to somewhere else and used this as a one-night stopover. Wish we could have stayed longer! It’s a great property with tons of stuff to do for kids. Parking is free. Our room was clean and came with a very well-appointed kitchen; you could stay here and cook all your own meals if you chose to avoid eating out. The bathroom was large and nice. We hung out at the pool, which was great; there’s even a lift into the water for disabled users, which I’ve never seen before at any other property where I’ve stayed. The grounds are pretty. Any staff members we met were nice. We played the Blackheath golf course, which was okay, but the greens are in rough shape and the #1 fairway is a minefield of goose poop. Also there’s no map of the course on the scorecard, and if you are playing nine holes, there is no quick and obvious way to get back to the clubhouse from the 9th green. (There’s another course that I suspect is better.) What keeps me from giving this five stars: 1) they try to sell you a timeshare when you check in; 2) there’s no breakfast (free or non-free) available anywhere on the property; 3) only two places offer food — the pool bar and a “bistro” that’s rarely open — so you have to leave the property to get a decent meal; 4) the coffeemaker in the room makes terrible coffee from the packet provided, so BYO ground coffee and you’ll be okay.

This is a great property. It's one of the better Marriotts we've stayed at. The scenery is relaxing, the pools are great, and everything is really nice. Here's the problem, the staff is awful. When I arrived the room was made up like you'd expect, except the guest before me had left their bag in the room. When I called the front desk to have it removed they acted like no big deal, that happens all the time. Fast forward to the evening, the guest came back, with a key that opened my door, and just walked in to my room. She just walked in, drunk, and wanted to know where her bag was. When I called the front desk the guy who answered laughed, and laughed again. They tried to bribe me with points or a dining credit, it was disgusting. Lots of room for improvement.

We were assigned a second-floor unit in Independence Hall, which is at the far end of the resort. We didn't mind this location despite the longer walk to the clubhouse and pools. Our balcony faced a wooded area with the golf course beyond, and it wasn't too far to the larger pool across the street at the Commons, also known as Marriott Sequel. The unit was very clean, beautifully furnished, and peaceful throughout our week-long stay. There are a number of activities, most of which are free, and the rest having a minimal participation fee. We enjoyed a wine tasting, ice cream sundae bar, smores by the firepit, etc. We also attended Living History presentations and particularly enjoyed President John Tyler, whom we knew little about. The details of his term in office turned out to be an enthralling story. We spent many pleasant hours at the pool as well as visiting historic sites during our stay. Ford's Colony makes a good base for touring the area unless your GPS keeps directing you to gated entries only accessible to residents. We programmed in the Dominion Memory Care address across the street from the Marriott Ford's Colony entrance, and that solved the problem. We would happily stay here again if we return to Williamsburg.

Place was lovely, but didn't have time to enjoy activities at the hotel. They closed mini golf & sport court early. Only 1 pool was open and the hot tub was closed so that was a bummer. We loved the huge tub in the room, everything was clean, the kitchen was well equipped, but the bed was hard as a rock for a side sleeper like myself. I was sore for 3 days afterwards for sleeping on such a hard bed.
