The Station Inn Whitby

If you *love* loud house parties and drunk people—this is your place! The smell of fresh paint just *barely* covers up the reek of cigarette smoke wafting in the open windows. On the plus side, there’s a busy street right outside and no parking. If you simply have to stay in the heart of Whitby, you probably could do worse, but you’d pay a lot less than £125 night. The room is nice enough, clean and fairly well-appointed. But you’ll be trying to sleep over a very noisy bar that appears to be very popular with the gauntlet of smokers you’ll have drag your bags through to check-in. Caveat Emptor: I am a woman travelling alone and I really didn’t feel the access to guest rooms was sufficiently secure. The only reason I stayed after realising that guest security wasn’t a priority is that I’d pre-paid.

We enjoyed a wonderful meal here last night. We both had the chicken Kiev parmesan. It was presented beautifully, and it was delicious! It came with fries, salad, coleslaw and garlic mayo. I think it was Kirsty who served us, she was lovely, as was the barmaid and the young man who brought our cutlery. The pub seemed to have a mix of locals and tourists and all seemed to be treated the same . I ended up getting a little box as I couldn't finish it all ! Great place, great value for money and great food Thankyou

Firstly, I should say that I very rarely give negative reviews. However, in this case, I need to make an exception for the DISGUSTING way that the owner, CRAIG SHELL, spoke to myself and my pregnant girlfriend – in response to us asking a straightforward question about loud music being played. He later threatened to remove us from the hotel for asking him a question. We stayed NYE 2024, when the hotel had a series of events on including a 4-course meal (costing £65), a band, saxophone player and midnight BBQ. This sounds like a sophisticated evening – which should be for the high cost of the meal. Although, what transpired was an extremely loud band playing rock music which could be heard from every corner of the hotel, followed by an unscheduled ‘disco’, catering for drunk (mainly teenage, non-resident) customers. The sax player never turned up. We went to an event off-site from 10pm-00:45am and arrived back to the disco which had become something akin to a nightclub/youth club – fuelled by alcohol. We completely understand that people party on NYE, get drunk, sing, etc. and we gave until 2am before my girlfriend POLITELY asked Craig to turn the music down. He instantly became ANGRY and ABUSIVE preceding to call her “stupid” for booking the hotel on NYE and getting uncomfortably close to her face shouting at her. My Girlfriend started retreating in the direction of the rooms to evade Craig and his angriness, where followed her. My girlfriend asked him to stop following, but he continued, indicating that he “would go anywhere he liked in his hotel!”. This is a CREEPY, arrogant, and inappropriate thing to say to a female guest. Craig is a BULLY, and the other reviews show that he picks on and tries to assert his dominance over female guests. Other guests and I could hear the commotion of Craig shouting and came downstairs. When I reached the corridor, I met a drunk red-faced Craig who became incredibly angry towards me as well – getting in my face, repeatedly saying that it is NYE and reiterated that we are “STUPID” for booking a room in his hotel. At one point, I was worried he was going to get violent. He argued that the loud music was communicated clearly on the hotel’s website and to the guests. If you see the screenshots provided, you can clearly see this is not true. Craig then angrily explained that he has a license until 5am the next day and would keep the pub open until the last guest leaves. I have never known this attitude before in my life – any reasonable/professional establishment would give you an estimate of the time that a ridiculously loud event would end. When I questioned this and asked him why he was so angry, he threatened to EVICT me and my PREGNANT* girlfriend out of the hotel – AT 2AM ON NYD!! What a fantastic start to the New Year by the owner of the hotel I have paid £240 to stay in. We had done absolutely nothing wrong. *Craig knew that my GF was pregnant as he also had a pop at us for not being out for a drink

Though a bit remote, Raithwaite Sandsend provided a relaxing getaway from the hustle and bustle of larger cities. Sandsend and Whitby are within walking distance (though the latter is a good 30 minute walk; a taxi is best). Several seaside paths are within 15 minutes of the hotel. The hotel grounds are lovely as is the staff who were very polite and friendly. All meals we ate the hotel were excellent. I enjoyed the common areas with various types of seating, games and fireplaces. The bar lacks character and warmth, unlike most other areas of the hotel. If the seating and decor is changed, I suspect it would make a world of difference.
La Rosa Hotel

'Victorian Seaside Fun' perfectly captures the vibe of La Rosa! Such a beautifully detailed and quirky gem, brimming with character and soul. You're immersed in their eclectic collection of antiques and oddities as soon as you step off the pavement. Everywhere you look, there's something interesting to see, read, explore, and enjoy. The cocktail library is such a treat, too. We felt truly spoiled having such a cool and cozy bar just downstairs! The music was always on point 👌🏻 Now, the rooms... I've never been so reluctant to leave a hotel room. We stayed in 'Stoker' on our first night, and 'La Rosa' on our second... We were only supposed to stay one night, but fell in love with the hotel and had to stay another night! Both rooms are dreamy. The beds are crazy comfortable. The views of the sea and the Abbey were so special. The large bathtubs and complimentary bubble bath were a very welcome touch... The water was hot, and the bubbles were big. What more could you ask for? And yes, two people will fit in them 😁 The staff were every much as part of the charm. Everyone we spoke to was friendly, personable, and relaxed. We were well taken care of and made to feel right at home, without being unnecessarily fussed over or interrupted. It felt like the staff immediately understood what we wanted from our stay and delivered it seamlessly. Just perfect! Needless to say, we loved everything about this hotel and can't wait to visit again. Thank you, La Rosa, for making our stay in Whitby so special! 🥰

Very rare do you give 5 point reviews. This place shows up a lot of 4 / 5 star hotels. All the good: Location - 2 minutes walk from the sea, 10 minutes walk to the centre. Staff - A courtesy call 24 hours prior to arrival to ensure everything was ok. They were spot on throughout. Parking - Available outside the hotel at a cost of under £5 for 24 hours. That is a bargain nowadays. Hotel & rooms - Everything was immaculate and everywhere within the hotel was clean, tidy and felt fresh. The room was a good size and it felt cosy. The dining room both appearance and the service from the staff was by fare above and beyond 3 star quality. The bar was available and the draft beers were of a good taste. Breakfast - Very good. Complemented by the service. 1 point minor point which doesn’t alter how good it was - If I was staying more than 1 night a small mini fridge in the room would of been ideal for keeping drinks cold on hot days. Verdict - If I returned to Whitby again I would not bother tying anywhere else. It had everything required and it was above the standard that I was expecting. I initially thought it was expensive for a 1 night stay, however I was not disappointed and it was value for money.
