A cute place for a family holiday get together. However, be sure to stay in the updated wings of the building as (for the price) the chalets are awful...so run down looking, masked with some kind of air fresher (that smelled awful), bed was uncomfortable, and you couldn't turn down the heat - we had the heat set at 64 and it felt like it was over 80 degrees, so we ended up having to use the air conditioner (and the weather was below 32 degrees outside 😦). Breakfast buffet food was horrible. The Christmas lights drive was fun (after you got through a half hour or so line to get through the entrance - there should have been separate lines for those who stayed on site and had a paid entrance pass so that there is no waiting in line for those who had to pay at the entrance.

We wanted a nice quiet few days to ourselves and this was perfect! We are not golfers, but we love to walk. The trails were great and challenging. Can't wait to go back and try a few more of them. The restaurants that we went to were excellent. If you leave hungry, it's your fault! The only thing we were a little disappointed in was the condition of the mini golf. Considering that it is a golf resort, we thought parents might want to introduce their children to mini golf as a starting point, but the course is in need of much repair. It was still fun, but it needs some TLC. The grounds overall are spotless. And the staff is fantastic. It seemed like every time we were a little confused on where to go, someone was always there to lend us a hand or give us directions. Great staff! Can't wait to go back again!

Attended a wedding at the Pine Room. Stayed at Spiedel 9 cabin. Cabin had great beds, plenty of towels, etc. Very comfortable! Easy drive to the Pine Room. Too busy to enjoy ll the amenities offered at Oglebay.

Our room was perfect and comfortable. However, the spotty cleaning service was very upsetting. We stayed 4 nights. On our last day we did not receive any service even though we called the front desk. When we did receive service, it was around dinner time! The park pool was so inviting but the surface is chipping and unpleasant to walk on. The dressing rooms were disgustingly filthy. Just 2 toilets. And while I was looking for the nonexistent showers, I was aghast to see the state of the changing rooms further back in the women’s area. This is the third time I have stayed at Wilson Lodge. I have also stayed at a cabin. Oglebay has done some remodeling which I noticed and appreciated but these aforementioned two issues are really bad. I will have to find alternative lodging when I make my next visit to Wheeling.

The plan was to stay the weekend, we ended up leaving the first night. Our cabin was full of bugs, spiders, wasp, beetle-like things. The kids were freaked out and did not want to sleep in the beds, then we found a bedbug and decided that was enough. They did refund our money and set us up in a nearby motel for the night.

Just got back from our first visit. Pros -lovely spacious grounds with stunning horticulture -many activities -TWO pools!, indoor nice temp with big towels -groundskeepers, housekeepers, restaurant employees again and again offered smiles, directions, assistance -large delicious burgers from Rt 88 burgers and brews Cons -woke at Midnight to a mouse rummaging around the empty Rt 88 burger bag! Country born husband took the bag outside and removed everything else that might appeal to the mouse. However it continued to wake us twice more by running across the laptop keyboard which lit up the room. Nothing but the Rt 88 bag was chewed however the mouse pooped in the bag holding toothbrush/dental floss. We alerted the front desk the next morning and were offered only apologies. -curtains not dark enough -bathtub did not drain as fast as the shower offered water

This was our central location for a family reunion for 75 people from many states. Nobody in the group lives in WV, but it worked for driving, or else flying to Pittsburgh, PA, and driving. We all rented cottages, which have space for a lot of people. Very clean, well-supplied with towels, soaps, kitchen items. Beautiful golf courses, good 'shelters' for our cookouts and gatherings. It was our second time here, and we will probably return.

Went with a group of golf friends for three nights and three days of golf. Property is beautiful, but that is where the superlatives end. Room was supposed to have been updated, but still needs work. Door to hallway was very difficult to open--needs to be planed down to fit. Bathroom has no exhaust fan and towels did not dry, so we could not reuse them. Little storage space, although part of the new storage space was unfinished. Played all three courses, the best conditions on the Palmer Course. Jones course was in very poor condition--would have filled divots but there was no sand on cart. Crispin course may have been a nice course at an earlier time; however, it was hard to find a decent lie because the course is turning to crab grass. There is absolutely no dress code at the Crispin course with muscle and tee shirts making our group of golfers stand out as being from a country club. Skyline dining room a pleasant surprise as having a good staff and good food. One very annoying thing was that it felt as though we were being nickel and dimed to death--$3.00 for a bottle of water to take on the course because there was no water available on the courses was ridiculous! Older golf carts with no GPS. For anyone consider going (and this is not a negative) just understand that the resort is in the mountains of WV and golf is played on very mountainous terrain.

We recently spent two nights at Oglebay Resort in Wheeling, WV for a wedding—and had a truly wonderful experience. While we didn’t hit the golf course, we still enjoyed a leisurely round of mini golf and had fun exploring the beautiful grounds. The resort is packed with charm, well-kept walking trails, gardens, and friendly staff. One real highlight was enjoying dinner at Skyline Bar & Restaurant, perched above the resort with panoramic views. The menu offered a satisfying mix of casual and elevated fare, and sipping cocktails with that view made the evening extra special. All in all, it was a peaceful, scenic weekend getaway—the perfect backdrop for a wedding celebration. Would definitely return!
