We visited Monart on July 3rd to celebrate our mam’s 50th birthday and were really looking forward to it, having heard so much about it as a luxury destination spa. The setting is absolutely beautiful — the gardens, thermal suite, and peaceful atmosphere made for a very relaxing environment. Afternoon Tea in the Old House was a highlight, and overall we had a lovely time together. That said, a few service issues left us feeling that the experience didn’t quite live up to the 5-star reputation or what you might expect from a true destination spa. Despite booking our stay in May and requesting spa treatments in June, the two treatments we were most looking forward to (Reiki and Reflexology) weren’t available. Communication around this could have been clearer. We were also given the wrong treatment time at check-in, and during Afternoon Tea I received a phone call saying one of the treatments had already started. This caused stress and rushing, and one of us only got half the treatment (thankfully they did reschedule the remainder for the next day, which we appreciated). There was also an error on our dinner bill, and some inconsistency with small gestures like birthday treats — one room got them, the other didn’t, even though we were all there for the same occasion. The staff were friendly and professional, and we did enjoy our visit, but the small details matter — and they’re what distinguish a truly 5-star experience. With a little more attention to coordination and consistency, Monart could live up to its reputation. As it stands, I’d say it’s a lovely spa hotel, but not quite the destination spa it markets itself to be.
