Gorah Elephant Camp
4.8/543 Reviews
This was one of the best places we have ever stayed in. From the moment we arrived until we left we had the most fantastic and amazing time. The people who work here are very friendly and efficient, they could not have been any more helpful. Our guide Werner was first class, he really made our stay. He is so knowledgeable and enthusiastic and we learnt so much and saw so many animals and birds. The watering hole in front of the main residence is a highlight and you can sit here for hours watching the ever changing animal scenery. Every meal we had was delicious, thanks to the chef. The “tents” are very spacious and comfortable with a lovely outdoor seating area for more animal spotting. Nothing is too much trouble for those who work here and we are already thinking about a return visit. Diolch yn fawr iawn. Thank you very much to everyone at Gorah.
Kuzuko Lodge
4.6/545 Reviews
I can't recommend Kuzuko Lodge highly enough. We had an amazing 4 nights here. So lucky to get Shaun as our ranger - he makes it his mission to give his guests the best experience possible and to share his extensive knowledge. We were lucky enough to see Lions, Rhinos , Buffalos, Giraffes, Zebra and all manner of Antelope and birds- sadly the Cheetahs hid from us but we had an amazing encounter whilst looking for them with a herd of Elephants in the Addo including a tiny baby one. I arrived without luggage due to an airline mixup - the team sorted all this for me and even went on a 6 hour round trip to collect my bag when it arrived. The food was lovely and the lodges very comfortable. I celebrated a milestone birthday whilst there and can honestly say I had the best birthday experience. The team worked with my husband to organise several surprises - from champagne on the early game drive , a private dining experience and a lovely cake. The weather was very mixed -really hot one day to strong winds and rain. It can be very nippy in the mornings and evenings so lots of layers are needed. Special mention to Shaun the Ranger, Derrick the restuarant manager, Siya our lovely waitress who gave me such a special dining experience and the reservation team for sorting my suitcase!
Drostdy Hotel
4.5/545 Reviews
Disappointed with the Drostdy Hotel – A Shadow of Its Former Glory I recently visited the Drostdy Hotel in Graaff-Reinet, a place I have cherished for years as a beacon of elegance and hospitality. Unfortunately, my latest experience left me disheartened, as the once-iconic establishment seems to be losing its charm under its new management. Upon arrival, I noticed that the hotel grounds, which previously exuded meticulous care and tranquility, now appeared neglected. The once-lush gardens were unkempt, with dry plants and overgrown lawns detracting from the serene ambiance. This lack of attention to detail set a disappointing tone for my stay. Inside the hotel, service levels were mediocre at best. While the staff were friendly and polite, they seemed overwhelmed and ill-prepared to handle guest needs efficiently. Delays were common, and there was a noticeable lack of organization throughout. Conversations with staff revealed that new management had recently taken over, which may explain the inconsistency, but it doesn’t excuse the decline in standards for an establishment of this caliber. It’s disheartening to see the Drostdy Hotel in such a state, especially when it has always been synonymous with refinement and exceptional service. There is something amiss, and the magic that once made it a standout destination has dimmed. To potential guests: if you are looking for the Drostdy Hotel of the past, you may leave disappointed. I hope that the new management takes swift action to restore the property to its former glory, as it still has the potential to shine. Rating: ⭐⭐ / 5 Would I return? Not until visible improvements are made.
Pumba Private Game Reserve
4.8/548 Reviews
We loved our 2-day stay at Pumba! The game reserve is in beautiful and varied surroundings, our bedrooms were gorgeous, private, with all the facilities one could want, including a plunge pool and terrace to watch more wild life from. The communal areas are well laid out, service is friendly, professional and helpful and our ranger was awesome, very knowledgeable and fun to be with. Can't fault it! We'd go back and stay 3 nights next time!
