We called in at this charming old pub for a sandwich & a drink. The barman was very friendly and told us the history of the place. He then explained the old pub games they had. Shove halfpenny, Aunt Sally, Toad in the Hole & ring the cow horn. The sandwich’s were good.

We didn’t stay here but visited as we were staying nearby. Had a few beers and some good honest pub grub. Locals were all very friendly as were the staff. Food was good so no complaints there. After a long day walking around the Cotswolds it was nice to relax with a pint in the garden.

Parking at hotel is limited so had to be on the main village street that was generally quite quiet. Reception at bar were expecting us and quickly shown room upstairs from the outside stairway. Room was quite pleasant with nice amenities. As restaurant was closing had to make our way there quite quickly before getting our suitcases in. (see separate review for food). Disturbed at midnight by fire alarm but just as about to go out of room alarm silenced and panic over (chef apologised at breakfast as cause was unknown). Good choice of cereals, fresh fruit and juice plus choice of cooked breakfast. Service not quick but in no hurry and food was hot and tasty

2nd time staying here. The room was functional, the carpet could have done with a vacuum. The shower was 5 seconds on 5 seconds off, continuous which is extremely frustrating. One reading light didn't work. Alot of stains on carpet and sofa. One light pillow each but cushions from sofa helped. The alarm went off before 7am and stopped after a couple of minutes. No apologies or explanations forthcoming. When I asked at breakfast, I was told when the kitchen closed something wasn't switched off so when opened in the morning it set off the alarm. No one to explain what happens at breakfast. Not particularly easy to log in or order meals. However, evening meal and breakfast were tasty and good value. Parking along the road. Cups in room but no milk/tea bags etc. Was too tired after a long journey to chase up. The staff were fine. Beautiful picture box historical village with lovely pond and ducks. Bed and bath room clean.

Very mixed experience. One night stay ahead of event in Oxford. Ideal location in Cotswold village. Beautiful old pub. Staff friendly & helpful. Price reasonable. Room disappointing a mish-mash of beds, shower noisy & intermittent hot water. Biggest issue was a rock band playing to a boisterous audience right beneath the 1st floor bedroom. Love my music but this was very loud & unable to reduce noise as windows were original sloping wooden slats. Power cut stopped music just b4 11pm. Would not revisit

The Bell is not perfect but has character and is excellent value. We paid under £100 each for 3 nights B&B. Staff & the locals were very friendly. The English Breakfast was very tasty indeed. The bedrooms need a bit of refurbishment but are en-suite and good for a quiet nights sleep.

Wanted a dog friendly place to stay near Witney without paying a fortune. The Bell Inn was inexpensive, very friendly. The were lots of positive points but some aspects really let it down. The breakfast was particularly disappointing, but we could have been unlucky. The room was well presented and clean, although the shower was not good (blocked and the waste pipe needed a good clean hence water didn’t flow away. Hopefully this has been sorted after we brought it to the managers attention. If you are looking for an inexpensive place to stay, which is dog friendly (and person friendly), are happy with ‘pub grub’ and friendly service. The Bell will serve you well.

A lovely traditional real pub with accommodation and restaurant. We we were booked in overnight mid-week and received a warm welcome - but even though it was only 7:30pm and we had just driven for 4 hours to get there, we were told the kitchen would be closing in 10 minutes. After being shown outside and up an external metal staircase to our dog friendly room (which is not recommended for those with mobility problems) we scuttled back down to the bar and ordered some food. The service was excellent and the bar had a lovely rustic charm, with a big open fire. Food was nice as were the drinks and they even kindly brought them to the table for you. The twin room was a bit dated and lacked some basics like coat hangers, but was comfortable overall. Water pressure was dismal in the bathroom however but it is an old historic building after all. There is no car park and street parking can provide a challenge to find somewhere to leave your car. We would give this a 2.5 star Inn in terms of accommodation and 3.5 for food and drinks with top marks for attentive service overall. We found all of it reasonably priced and we would go back and stay over again.
