Courtyard West Orange

Check in & out were easy. Asked if we had a floor preference. Quiet area. Room was clean as well as the bathroom. They updated and put a seat with a glass wall. Most people will tend to get in on that end & you have nothing yo hold onto besides glass. It’s just not the best design. There’s a bar in the tub along the wall, but leaning to reach it could cause a fall & could be dangerous. I’ve included a photo. Breakfast there is NOT free & very expensive. There’s a few locations to eat within walking distance or in the shopping area very close by. We went to Panera Bread 2 mornings in shopping area. Laundry is $2 for each W/D, Coffee in lobby is not free either. It’s setup but you have to ask for a cup which will cost you. Coffee in room, but we had to ask for more & gave 1. They are very tight on extras. We had no issues with parking. At least that’s free. Wi-Fi was good. Overall stay we had no issues. Forgot to take photos until we were leaving, room was much nearer upon arrival.

My daughter and I checked into this hotel last night. We experienced a devastating fire in our home and our church family assisted in providing us with this place to rest our heads. When we woke up today we learned that 15 guests, and ourselves were the victim of our cars being broke into and our property stolen. Everything that we had left in this world was stolen. No shoes, clothing, wallets, Everything. The sad thing is that the hotel's cameras weren't working, and of course they're not liable for theft of vehicles and other things. West orange police arrived and were great and assisted as best they can. However, there was no manager for Marriott on site, and not a representative for Marriott showed up. It appears that this was an inside job. The thrives broke into cars right in front of the front door. This place is not safe,and offered no assistance at all. With the exception of providing plastic bags for the guests broken car windows. Oh, and the tape. This is scary. Imagine leaving your rooms and these same thieves getting in, or while you're there. Again this place is not safe!!!!

I'm a longtime Platinum Elite Marriot member,and I had stayed at this hotel once before. I got an upgrade to a king suite (although they gave me a hard time getting the upgrade when I arrived, even though the room was open). That room is great - has a couch, t.v., and a refrigerator in both the bedroom and living room. Lots of room to hang out. Bathroom sink outside the bathroom. Great location - near the movie theater and all the stores/restaurants in Essex Green shopping plaza. It's about 10 minutes from Turtle Back Zoo. When we checked in, the front desk woman wasn't friendly at first (she looked like she didn't want to be bothered with us), but then she became much friendlier and told us where to go to eat. The restaurant that all the Courtyard Marriotts have in the lobby only serves food for breakfast here, (I've never seen that before) instead of breakfast and dinner. The hotel was nicely decorated for the holidays. The t.v. remotes in both rooms were really slow, and we couldn't watch Neflix. After we logged in, it would just spin and spin. But the thing that really bothered me, is that we had a "do not disturb" sign on the door. As Platinum Elite members, we requested a 1 p.m. checkout. We were about to leave at 12 p.m., when housekeeping knocked on the door (with the don't disturb sign) and then immediately tried to enter without waiting 5 seconds. I opened the door, and seriously, the woman was glaring at us. So unbelievably unfriendly. I stated that we would be leaving in two minutes, and she just gave us an angry look and walked away. To us, it seemed like the hotel has unhappy employees. We usually find Marriott employees to be so friendly. (I had called before I arrived, and the two people I spoke to also weren't too friendly.) I don't know if I would come back -it's conveniently located, priced well, and clean, and the suite is really spacious, but just didn't feel overly welcome.

The staff (Joette, Deanna, Anetra, Michael) were EXCELLENT; extremely friendly, helpful, courteous, engaging, polite !!! The facility and accommodations were comfortable and clean. The only issue is with the Ownership/Manegement not working with our group on the $500 we paid each time we used the conference/group room, considering that we were renting it the entire weekend.

Well, the hotel is pretty standard fare. Older, lots of parking. But the kicker here is it’s a “non-smoking” facility. Unfortunately, it seems that if you want to smoke, there is nothing that they can do about it! I don’t know if the staff are simply lazy, the reception desk simply said “unfortunately, we’d have to knock on every door…” We’ll, YES knock on every door! Not sure if the answer is to simply go to an other hotel or what. Seems that the response by management is ‘well, what do you expect us to do about it?’

Barring initial concerns logistically as we were planning the hotel for our reunion, from check in to check out, Joette, Deanna, Anetra and Micheal were pleasant and accommodating. Housekeeping staff as well were very pleasant. Hotel was clean, offered alot, esthetically nice and was situated in a great location. You had everything you would need close by. Thank you all very much!

My sister and I went to NJ for a reunion with family members that we had lost touch with since we were children. The staff at the hotel were by far the most helpful and friendliest of any hotel that I’ve ever stayed in…including 5 star! The hotel was lovely, beds were extremely comfortable and the view from the balcony was delightful. It is conveniently located within walking distance to plenty of shops, restaurants and even a movie theatre. I highly recommend this hotel if you’re going to be staying in the West Orange area.

i purchased the room a little late but nowhere did it say check in is at 3 pm nor does it state that if you’re not in at check in by 3pm you have to pay another night plus a deposit fee. i did not get any help by the clerk lady

We are writing this review as Marriott Elite members. The customer service is horrendous at this place. They overcharged by placing an auth twice the stay (the room, daily incidentals & then more!). Still pending we’ll beyond the stay, bank is awaiting their final charge! The person who answered the phone was impatient, placed us on hold because they couldn’t properly address the call, then answered the other line with a different name altogether! Same person same voice. Maybe they truly identify as two different people but the question was simple, and still unaddressed. I’m fairly certain the rep who answered the phone called themself the general manager so as to avoid their ineptitude. Otherwise, too bad for the Marriott brand if true!
