Very comfortable chalets within a pretty garden setting. Comfortable bed and additional armchairs for relaxation. Very quiet, away from street noise but in a peaceful and pretty village. Service was excellent in the bar / restaurant. Staff were helpful and attentive.

The Thomas Lord is not the pub it used to be, which is sad to see. No locals, no atmosphere, no warm friendly welcome, just ignorance and an eye roll. I’m not going to say the food was bad, it wasn’t. After eating we realised how dirty and grubby everywhere was. I’m sorry but this pub has been left behind and not cared for anymore. The back bar was messy, the toilets aren’t checked, and the dirt and dust is something else….! The Thomas Lord used to be the best pub in this area, it is now the worst. Sorry chef, this doesn’t include you.

We ate here last Saturday for lunch with our son and daughter in law. The carrot and coriander soup was served cold which was surprising. We asked for it to be heated but the chef said no so a bruschetta was ordered instead. My son ordered the pub snack of chicken skewers with peanut sauce for a starter but when he cut it through the chicken was still pick so he did t eat it. We told the waitress and she informed the chef who just apologised. My son went without a starter. No money was deducted off the bill which was quite a lot of money. £220 for 4 people with 3 beers and one and a half wines and a soft drink. We will not be going there again and I would advise others to double check the food and menu. Rather disappointing

What a refreshing change the Thomas Lord was. At a time when hospitality in the UK has deteriorated the staff at the Thomas Lord show what hospitality should be about . The staff provide an outstanding welcome, Melody welcomed us with a cheery smile and professionalism. The Thomas Lord provides quiet spotless accommodation, excellent food and makes you feel like you are a valued customer. The incredibly comfortable Hypnos beds, air conditioning that was quiet, a great shower that didn’t need a degree to work out and plenty if tea and coffee with a jug of milk in the fridge rather than the usual grim long life capsules. The breakfast was excellent, Eyvonne front of house gave us tips of places to visit that was such a lovely addition . The bedroom cabins are a brilliant concept because they are so quiet , no door banging, no lift whirring in the middle of the night, no clatter of cleaners at six in the morning. The management of Upham inns need to give their team at the Thomas Lord a big congratulations for showing what hospitality is all about - Thankyou from us both .

Had a very comfortable stay here and the staff were excellent. In particular, the young lady working behind the bar was very helpful and went out of her way to help us during a bit of an emergency situation with my friend Saturday morning post- checking out. She offered him water, towels, ice and even an electrolyte mix! Also donated a jug in case of potential accidents in the taxi on way to hospital. Cannot thank her enough.

Charming, atmospheric, fantastic value, cleanliness, fabulous breakfast. Great location to visit retail centres and picture postcard local walks! I cannot praise the staff there who are so welcoming and helpful! This is and will continue to be my “ go to hotel” when I visit the area!

We had booked for inside but as it was such a lovely day we ate outside. Warmly welcomed. We had the crab/prawn muffin starter, absolutely delicious with fennel and rocket. We had fish pie, which was packed with fish, plus extra sides of asparagus… full of flavour and extra green vegetables. Two puddings of raspberry and pistachio Bakewell tart and Sticky bread and butter pudding. Whole meal was delicious and even good coffee. We do still feel that it is a tad expensive but couldn’t fault the food or service today. Many thanks!

Great place to stay overseas in quiet peaceful surroundings. Staff happy and helpful, especially Yvonne at breakfast. Very good dinner options and an excellent breakfast. Would definitely go back.
