When arriving at the beautiful 850 West Hollywood Hotel we were shown to our room and that's when I noticed that we where in the wrong room type. I proceeded to talk with reception to explain that we were in wrong room but to my surprise we were informed this was the correct room. I said no, our room has a balcony with views of the city and that was the primary reason that I booked this hotel (as per booking. com room description). Reception told us that our room type (Deluxe King Room) didn't all have city views and that they don't have any available that do have city views left, I was totally gutted as this was a special occasion booking and the views was everything, the Los Angeles skyline. I also spoke to the manager but again was told they were fully booked. Not only did the room given to us not have the views but this rooms view was the bushes and the neighbours scaffolded walls. All our windows were frosted glass so we couldn't even see out of the windows at all either, felt very claustrophobic in the room. The balcony was the width of a single chair and not a comfortable environment due to terrible view of bushes, walls, scaffolding, dust and the loud construction works going on next door. The construction work was very loud and intolerable and at no point during booking or check in were we informed of these works. Being on the second floor there is obviously people in the room above and hearing them is not unusual, however the insulation is really bad so it was like being under a classroom of stomping children. Windows didn't close properly either so noise was always a constant either from building works, street noise or traffic. In summary the room was a claustrophobic box, stomping noises from ceiling, outside noise, opaque windows and a tiny balcony surrounded with bushes, scaffolding and workmen using jackhammers. Our booking included breakfast as per description, this turned out to be a continental breakfast, I use the word continental loosely. Breakfast was a pastry, orange juice or coffee with one cereal choice that was the same everyday. This is not acceptable to be called breakfast of any description. We therefore had to eat and pay outside the property, an expense that we didn't budget for. After checking out we were charged a resort fee that they didn't tell us about, I only realised they had charged this after I got an alert from my credit card. I had to return to them and explain I had already paid all monies for my stay via ***********. , once they had double checked our booking they refunded this In conclusion, our 3 night stay in West Hollywood was completely ruined due to not receiving the room we saw advertised and being out of pocket paying for proper breakfasts. I would like to say that the manager Virginia is a lovely person and made us feel very welcome and is to be commended.
