Nice place to stop for a 2-3 days to enjoy the lake and Cascade rive trails. Nothing fancy, but place has everything you might need. Nice and friendly staff. Lodge is in a great location: Grand Marais only 10 miles east and Temperance rive trails about 20 miles west. I wasn't impressed by their restaurant + live music was way to laud, and we were going for supper to Grand Marais where we had much better choices for the same price or even less. Overall, I would recommend this place.

We arrived just before the kitchen closed after driving all day and were exhausted. The staff was friendly, cheerful and accommodating. The meals were prepared with care and attention to detail. My quinoa and fresh fruit salad was a masterpiece in presentation with chewy quinoa, fresh crunchy spinach and flavourful fresh berries, and it tasted as good as it looked. My husband had the most delicious looking rueben piled with sliced meat and bubbly melted swiss cheese. We were also thrilled to get a discount as we were staying in the adjacent Cascade Lodge. The hotel was roomy, clean, quaint in a good way, and provided us with a nice rejuvenating sleep! Our view of Lake Superior and her haunting fog made for a magical stay. Well worth the stop!

Sigh, this place holds many memories from a number of family trips when I was young. Now, they just don't care. I was there last Sep during a heat wave. The curtains were left open, the room faced south/the lake, it was hot and miserable. The could have taken the modest step of closing the curtains during the day to keep the heat down. Additionally, on arrival at about 6 pm, I was informed the restaurant was closed for a private event. The lodge is near nothing else, Grand Marais is a 20 minute drive. The could have sent an email to everyone registered for the evening, but I guess that would have been too much work... I don't think I'll be returning.

We stayed in cabin 1. For a hundred-year-old cabin, it was well maintained and clean. There are numerous hiking areas right around the property. There is a cozy lounge area in the main lodge that guests of cabins can use. It was a fun place to stay while visiting the Northshore.
