Hotel Haus Duden

It's truly unbelievable that this hotel dares to present itself as a 4-star establishment. My stay was nothing short of a nightmare, and the fact that this place is promoted as anything close to high-quality is outright deceitful! From the moment I stepped onto the property, it was clear that this hotel is neglected and has nothing in common with the luxury one would expect from four stars. The exterior is a disgrace: overgrown weeds, filthy windows that barely let in light, and an overall atmosphere of decay and disinterest. It felt as if the hotel had been abandoned for years. But the worst was yet to come. As soon as I opened the door to my room, I was hit by an unbearable, musty stench – it was obvious that this space hadn't seen a proper cleaning in a very long time. The floor was sticky underfoot, and I still shudder at the thought of what that might have been. The room was covered in dust, and the fan had such thick layers of it that I genuinely feared for my health. And as if that wasn’t enough, I found used tissues stuffed in the tissue box. The very thought is revolting, and it only got worse when I discovered blood stains on both the wall and the curtain. This isn’t just poor service; it’s a matter of serious neglect and potentially hazardous conditions! The only thing this hotel did to somewhat mitigate the damage was refunding my money when I immediately decided to check out. But no amount of money can erase the disgust I felt walking out that door. This hotel doesn’t even deserve one star, let alone four. My advice: stay as far away from this decaying and dangerous place as possible!

It took a while to find this place, as it’s on the edge of a housing estate. We were greeted by pot holes at the top of the driveway (we were on a motorcycle) and a general air of neglect. The front of the building needed some maintenance and the gardens needed attention too. I had emailed to book a table for a meal on our arrival and was told that the restaurant was not open on Sundays and Mondays, but they did not mention that the bar would also be closed. So after a very long hot journey we could not even source a cup of tea. The male receptionist (who was not especially friendly) told us to “go into town” but failed to mention a supermarket less than half a mile away. Good old Google! Our room was very hot when we went in (no air con) and we were not able to leave a window open as it was on the ground floor, however a fan was provided which did help to cool us down overnight. There were quite a few plug sockets although some of them did not work. There is a small fridge and a bottle of fizzy water had been left but it was not in the fridge, so it was warm. The bathroom was like a sauna after we had both showered with no ventilation. It was also in need of a good clean as there were a family of spiders living under the radiator, the sink plug was very grubby and the toilet brush also dirty. The towels were also very small. The bed however was very comfortable but the pillows very lumpy. Breakfast was adequate, but the coffee tasted as though it was instant. There was no one on reception when we checked out, but we didn’t wait as we wanted to get out as quickly as possible.
