The Royal Oak Hotel, Welshpool - the Coaching Inn Group

It is a nice hotel ,good location and good food.comfortable bed and good facilities in the bedroom.

Great food at dinner and for breakfast. The restaurant was full of locals who clearly eat there regularly. Lovely staff who were friendly, eager to please and helpful. Accommodation was clean, comfortable, and well presented. It is very convenient for Welshpool and the wider area. Parking is in a secure car park, but this was full when I arrived because of a function at the hotel. It cleared by 10 o'clock, and I could park overnight.

I have stopped at this hotel previously but did nt dine there. Apologies I have not got any photos available due to IT issue, but I can vouch for the standard of the room and bathroom being of good standard. Shower in the bath but a really large bathmat and wall grab rail. Good car park is at rear of hotel, access road is on a one way system so allow a couple of circuits to get approach run cut across sorted.! All good so far when booking the hotel I looked at the menu and once I saw Duck Confit was unhesitating in booking a table. I ordered a pint of Amstel to accompany meal , at the bar, and took it to allocated table. It was undrinkable,some one needs to train bar staff how to clean the pipes or clean the glasses to refresh the widget function. I ordered the meal and requested a plate that was hot and a portion of mashed potato. The meal came on a plate that would glow if the lights were out.Not a problem some chefs dont like any input from the customers, however the duck was not Confit it was bog standard chewy roast duck with a Gascony style accompaniment as per the Google recipe!! When the potato arrived in a serving dish it was straight out of the fridge or freezer. I told the waiter to take it away and leave it at that. I made my feelings plain to the waiter but tipped him to show this was not his doing it was nt until later I found I had been charged 10% service charge. Right brassed off now. The receipt describes the meal as roast duck so airs of pretension have got out of hand. Excellent beer and bar service available 200 m away in The Angel pub. The Royal Oak charges more than I would normally pay and I have have had much superior experiences at less cost. All the gear and no idea, plenty of hospitality provision propaganda though.

Stayed here for one night. Very friendly and helpful greeting from Receptionist. Although the building is obviously very old, it has been updated and modernised where it can be. All areas were very clean and tidy. My room was well presented and very comfortable. Although the hotel is centrally located in Welshpool, I had a very peaceful night, even with my bedroom windows open. I cannot comment on dinner, as I did not dine there. However, breakfast was top class. Another bonus is that the car park is reasonably secure, being barrier controlled.

Lovely traditional hotel in Welshpool. We stayed for one night. Easy and safe private parking, friendly staff and good facilities. No lift so a bit of a hike to our room on the second floor, but it was comfortable and clean, with all you could need. Lovely dinner and cooked breakfast. Good base for the area and would have no hesitation in recommending.
