Jaga Bay Resort was fantastic! I arrived in town and the place I had booked did not have my booking and Jaga Bay came to the rescue.
This is a family run local business. Jaga the owner supports local children with their education through his own personal donations and those of past guests. I was being a sticky beak one morning as a crowd of women and children were having a little ceremony and thanking Jaga. He explained to me that since the tsunami the hotel and past guests supported orphaned children to finish their schooling. There are only two children left so now they support local children in need. This warmed my heart so much as I saw such genuine support and appreciation with everyone there.
I was in Weligama before a friend's wedding and was in desperate need for an under garment for my Sari. Jaga's wife and main office lady went above and beyond for me on new years eve...I managed to find an awesome tailor, personalised tuktuk driver's and first class service...and the best breakfast view!
I will always come back here.

Dear tourists. Never go to this bug-infested place. All the praised reviews are written by Russian-speaking surfers who hang out there as instructors and are in the pay of the hotel. In fact, this is not a nice family hotel on the first line in a quiet corner. But a large hotel built with additions and additions to a friend from **** and sticks. Where you will have blue translucent aluminum double-glazed windows instead of entrance doors. Everything around the hotel is falling off and falling apart somewhere unfinished. And not because this nice owner just doesn't have the means, but because this owner really doesn't care about people, he is only interested in your money. We encountered his complete inhumanity, and especially his administrator, a very unpleasant woman. Next to the hotel there is not a nice restaurant, but a huge noisy cheap establishment with a bunch of drunk people.

Pessimo hotel il peggior hotel del mio viaggio in sri lanka. Il gestore dovrebbe fare il pescatore senza nulla togliere ai pescatori che però non hanno bisogno di saper comunicare con i turisti. Per il resto camere con la muffa alberi che passano nelle stanze eccc meglio dormire in spiaggia

This was a very odd hotel that in reality looks a lot more ragged vs the pictures posted here. The smell of mildew is strong in many parts of the hotel, especially the reception office. The rooms are awkwardly furnished, with loud AC units that run 24/7 struggling to cool your room. There are a number of dogs on site, and while friendly have a tendency to go crazy and bark very loudly at night when people enter the hotel. I was there during off season for 2 nights. The Friday night had a nearby club with booming music until well after midnight disturbing sleep. Very few people at the hotel, and the beach was deserted. I'd rate the beach average. It does tend to have some garbage on it, with only limited chairs/loungers available. On the plus side, the breakfast was very hearty and filling and the internet worked well. The staff was happy to exchange money and do laundry for you. But not sure this place has totally recovered from the tsunami in 2004. I would not use this place again given the choice.

Very well located in front of the beach, we had a great experience in this hotel. We had a room with a sea view. The staff is very helpful and welcoming. Perfect food. Bonus : if you love dogs, that’s the perfect place. They teat them and take care of them.

We have stayed at Jagabay Hotel many times in past years but have been able to stay for the past 4 years because of the pandemic and economic problems in Sri Lanka. We were absolutely delighted to be back once again. Staff work very hard and are so helpful. Accommodation is overlooking the wonderful golden beach and Indian Ocean and the food here (rice and curry especially) is really excellent. The owner Jagath is extremely welcoming and helpful and will advise on all aspects of travel both local and around the island. Really looking forward to our next visit!
