We arrived late for our booking but on ringing the pub they were very accommodating and moved our reservation time. The staff were very friendly , the service was good and the food was excellent . Highly recommended.

Meeting up with friend to socialise and eat out. A beautiful day nice meal wasn't felt rushed to say we was doing it to do as a regular thing as we loved the time there staff fab too.

Stopped alongside grand union canal for lunch. Ordered baguettes which were delicious. Didn’t disappoint. Staff very friendly and service was good. Would recommend this pub restaurant for lunch and Would definitely come back again soon

I was welcomed by a charming young lady called Shania, very helpful and gave me extra towels. Very enjoyable food and welcoming staff overall. Friendly atmosphere and a pleasant experience. I highly recommend Heart of England to anyone passing through. Sally

Served by a young person who really didn't seem to want to be there. No greeting or smile. Another member of staff was showing them things on their mobile. Tables had not been wiped and generally looked run down. On the way out, we bumped into two couples who were discussing how poor the service was. Maybe it will improve with training

Empty pub, no atmosphere, not even any music on. Garden tables noted after, not very inviting. Bar staff look scruffy, serving food in their lounge wear. Kitchen/Bar staff sat polishing cutlery while we were eating at the next table. Food is over priced microwave/frozen food. Such a shame.

Our room was in an annex to the main house but there were only a few steps to walk to the black door of the pub. It had loads of character, wooden beams and thick walls which would keep it cool in summer but there was an electric heater to warm it in April. It wasn’t very big but did have a very comfortable super-king bed with great pillows and towels. Penny and Stuart were both very welcoming and helpful. Penny got my husband a comfortable armchair for the room and Stuart cooked us perfect breakfasts on the two mornings we stayed there.

Well, I enjoyed a first visit so much I went back a week later. I guess it all depends on EXPECTATIONS. At this price-point, do customers really expect 5 * service? I paid around £50 a night and got privacy, a decent, clean bathroom and ease of check-in and departure. Both rooms I stayed in were cold - true - but I like sleeping in the cold and the beds were warm and so was the hot water, so what is the problem? I wasn't interested in eating in the restaurant for dinner or breakfast, so I can't comment on food. Room 4 was nicer layout than room 6. I liked it enough that I am going back next week - this time with a friend.
