Sometimes the people at a hotel make all the difference during your hotel stay. This was the case with Kay. Kay worked in the front desk/lobby area. During our stay Kay was attentive, friendly, took care of every detail and delivered a first class experience. This property is a great place to recharge and enjoy the ocean. Combine that with the people like Kay, and you have the making of an overall first class beach expereince.

My recent stay at the Marriott Virginia Beach Oceanfront Resort (June 29th - July 6th, 2025) was a profound disappointment. While the hotel boasts a stunning location, the operational failures and critical safety breaches I experienced completely overshadowed any positives. The Good: The hotel's location is truly exceptional. As the last large hotel going northward in Virginia Beach, it provides truly unobstructed and beautiful ocean views from the rooms. Additionally, the beds were comfortable and the pillows were good, ensuring a restful night's sleep. The Bad: The service was consistently poor. The check-in process was frustratingly inefficient; my luggage, despite multiple calls and promises from staff starting at 12:15 PM, didn't arrive in my room until nearly 5 PM. Beyond that, the room cleaning schedule was unacceptable. On multiple days, our rooms were not serviced until very late, often after 3 PM – much later than any hotel I've ever experienced. On July 5th, for example, we left our room at 9 AM and returned at 3 PM to find it still uncleaned. After an early dinner, hoping it would be addressed, we returned at 4:15 PM and it was still untouched. The front desk informed me rooms are cleaned until 5:30 PM, forcing us to leave the room again while tired from a long day at the beach. The Ugly: This is where the experience truly fell apart. Persistent Communication Failures: I was repeatedly misled regarding basic amenities. I was offered complimentary breakfast vouchers at check-in, but then told they weren't available. Multiple staff members subsequently promised these vouchers would be delivered directly to my room (twice!), even discussing internal "Teams" messages to ensure they wouldn't forget. Despite these repeated assurances, they never materialized. After wasting significant time over two days chasing this promised item, I finally received the vouchers around 5 PM on the second day. At that point, the front desk stated they would add points to my Marriott Bonvoy account instead. This entire ordeal highlighted a severe lack of follow-through and honesty in communication from various staff members. CRITICAL FIRE SAFETY HAZARDS: By far the most alarming aspect of my stay was the consistent and dangerous misuse of emergency stairwells as storage areas. These are not minor issues; they are fundamental breaches of guest safety. Stairwell B (between Floors 22 and 23): This stairwell is located prominently in the middle of Orion's Roof restaurant on the 23rd floor. For over 48 hours (from June 30th to July 2nd), the lower landing of this emergency exit was rendered completely impassable. It was entirely blocked by a massive amount of mattresses, along with random garbage, chair covers, and other hotel equipment. This created an immediate and severe life-safety risk. I verbally reported this specific obstruction to both the hotel front desk and the restaurant staff on July 2nd. While the mattresses were eventually removed more than 2
