Vík Cottages

The outside pictures of the property do not match the reality. Across from you is a camping site and multiple hotels which if you open your curtains can look directly into your room. You also don’t get the whole house, just the half which is super inconvenient and again people look inside of your room. The bathroom was nice, a bit small but had all amenities. The check in was through an app that we couldn’t access so we had to go to the hotel to check in, which is super close so it was okay. The room was super hot and the window didn’t open so we needed to keep the front door open which due to the aforementioned reasons wasn’t comfortable. It is super close to all the shops as the city is very small and the hotel is right off the main road.

You need to really lower your expectations at these cottages. I was really taken in by the lovely photos on the website and wide angled shots, but it’s not what it seems! It looks like you get a whole cottage to yourself but that’s not the case, each cottage is in fact two separate bedrooms so unless you are a group of four, you are sharing the cottage with strangers and you are only divided by an internal door and a thin wall. The rooms are really small and very basic indeed. The bathroom is so tiny it’s like a cupboard. The blackout blinds were useless and not effective. We were booked in for 2 nights, but had to leave after the first night due to total lack of sleep and noisy neighbours. We spoke to reception both on arrival and the morning after our first night to try and get moved to the main hotel but I was told no sorry we are full, which I suppose is fair enough if that was the case. But no apology for the cottage and our dissatisfaction of it. We managed to find a room over the road at a new hotel which was a life saver. Interestingly when we went to checkout from the cottages we were told they did have a room available after all, but unfortunately it was too little too late. On a positive note, the Berg Restaurant was lovely, which I shall review separately. To sum up… Avoid, or considerably lower your expectations!
