Varangertunet Arctic Resort

A very nice place! Great hospitality, clean, good beds and kitchen! And nice Staff:) we felt welcome and had a very nice time exploring the surroundings of the beautyful Varangerfjord!

We had an amazing time at Varangertunet. Our trip was organised by Aurora Holidays and included a dip in the Artic Ocean before a sauna at Varangertunet and a fabulous introduction to Sammi culture, amazing food in the traditional Lavvu. The best fish soup I have ever eaten !

During my recent trip to Finland, #AuroraHolidays organized a day trip to #Varangertunet in Vestre Jakobselv, Norway. The trip included an option to take a dip in the Arctic Ocean but for me the high point was listening to the owners, Siren and Jan-Eilif, tell stories about the village, local customs and the history of both. Their love of the area and their eagerness to share their respective family histories was lovely to experience. After my fellow travelers enjoyed a brief swim, we had a traditional Norwegian lunch in their lavvo. The lavvo was a portable tent used by the native Sami people. It looks similar to a Native American teepee but is wider and shorter. There’s a place in the center for a fire which kept us warm during the meal. Siren and Jan-Eilif kept us entertained with their descriptions of life in Vestre Jakobselv and how they came to be proprietors of this gem of a guesthouse. After lunch, we went to the beautiful on-site restaurant to enjoy exquisite desserts and hear some deeply moving stories about their families. Both lunch and dessert included delightful vegan options. The 50 square meter apartment was clean and comfortable. There was a nice bathroom, where you could also find a washing machine. According to the booking, the apartment was supposed to have its own sauna, but it was missing. Maybe there was a mistake in the apartment information in the booking, but that didn't bother us. Everything needed for a short visit was found in the kitchen. We had a great one night stay here.

We had a fantastic two-night stay at Varangertunet in March 2023. The rooms were perfect - immaculately clean, spacious and comfortable. The food was delicious. Siren and Jan-Eilif were very welcoming and invited us to join them in their cabin for a BBQ for lunch and dinner. We saw lots of wildlife (including mountain hare right outside the restaurant) and also the northern lights during our stay. I would have no hesitation in recommending Varangertunet and very much look forward to returning!

We spent two extremely enjoyable nights at Varangertunet and wished we could have stayed for longer. Our rooms were super clean, peaceful and cosy and the meals were delicious. The surrounding area is very beautiful and Varangertunet is well located for exploring and enjoying the fabulous scenery. We even saw the Northern Lights. The owners are the kindest and most welcoming hosts you could wish to meet. We would absolutely recommend Varangertunet to anyone travelling in the arctic region of Norway and we hope to return before too long.
