We love staying at Holiday Inn in Vandalia when we go visit family. It's always clean and quiet. My kids love the pool. The breakfast was awesome with lots to choose from and very delicious. The only thing that was disappointing was that the hot tub still was not working. We visited back in May and it wasn't working then either.

I would recommend. This is a conveniently located HIE, right off the expressway with easy access. There were many fast food restaurant options within a mile. The room was very clean and spacious with an updated bathroom. The bed and linens were very comfortable. The bathroom towels were on the thin side compared to what I'm used to at an HIE. I appreciated the many electric and USB outlets available at the bedside with plenty of easy to reach lighting. The TV had adequate channel options but navigating the channels was quirky and connections were very slow between channels. As is often the case nowadays, soaps and lotions are now provided in communal refillable containers. I personally consider this unsanitary and studies back this up, so I make sure to bring my own now. The breakfast buffet was great. My husband and I got to the buffet on the later side, around 8:30 am, but there were still plenty of hot food options. The coffee was great and hot! Also, I was elated to discover gluten free bagels were hiding in the fridge. The toaster is not dedicated gluten free, but you can always wrap it in a napkin and heat it up in the microwave.

The absolute worst experience ever at a hotel. They moved my luggage and stole belongings from myself and co-workers. They are not trustworthy. General manager James Elam is a snake and only cares about money and does not do right by customers. It’s going on a month and have not heard from Manager regarding my claim made with corporate on stolen belongings. And overall, Holiday Inn said they do not involve with these disputes. Unsatisfactory. Fyi, they are thieves so book with caution.

Very nice hotel off I 70. 24 hour beverages, breakfast 6 am to 9. Huge room 2 queen beds, sofa bed, desk and chair Quiet except at 3 am heard term construction. Soft pillows, firm bed, attentive breakfast attentive...will return when in area. Havent stayed at Holiday inn in years as i had a streak of bad franchisee experience this stay gave me hope.

This is a good hotel. It is comfortable with a good breakfast. I had a few issues with my keys not working. The elevator is broken so check and make sure that it is repaired if stairs are difficult. Tina, the manager, was helpful and professional. I recommend and would stay again.

I really like how the hotel has shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in bottles already in the shower. Ditto for hand soap and lotion. It makes more sense than having small bottles provided. My reservation was also under my father's name so that we could use points. I was afraid that would be a problem, but it was seamless. The only criticism I would have is that the hot tub wasn't working at the time. This seems to be a constant in many hotels where I stay, but it would have been nice to have it up and running. Breakfast bar is amazing! The pancake machine they have is really neat; I haven't ever seen anything like that!

The hotel itself is just fine, but Ohhh Boy, the heavyset front desk clerk with red hair is super annoying and rude. I am diamond/platinum etc at just about every hotel chain due to the amount I travel for work. Never have I come across a more annoying/rude front desk clerk. She programmed the room keys incorrectly so when we arrived at the room, they didn’t work. When we arrived back at the front desk, she attempted to “man-splain” how hotel keys work to me. She just does not belong in the hospitality business, as she is rude. The hotel itself is alright, it’s a wide spot in the road in backwards rural Illinois. Just don’t expect much from the front desk, she is rude and annoying.

I had a decent stay at Holiday Inn Express & Suites Vandalia, find this hotel to be an average holiday inn express, no more, no less. Beds are ok. Bathroom ok. Indoor pool, hot tub, free parking, fitness room, wifi was ok. Simple and basic breakfast.
