On arrival we discovered this pousada is a franchise and not fully part of the Pestana group. So, no Pestana points for a stay here. Hadn’t noticed that explained anywhere on the Pestana website. The location within the old fort is unbeatable with some rooms having views across the river to Tui in Spain. Our superior room with balcony was spacious and well decorated. Bed and bedding were both good. Bathroom was clean and spacious although it’s the only Pousada we’ve stayed at with a plastic shower curtain rather than glass screen. Also only soap, no body lotion or other toiletries provided, no bathrobes etc. Breakfast had considerably fewer options than other Pousadas and no staff regularly monitoring and topping up but there were very few staff and few guests. Reception and other staff were all friendly and helpful. The hotel is apparently in a transition phase so the bar and restaurant were also closed on some days. If these things are important to you, check before booking. Overall, the hotel seemed comparatively overpriced and very understaffed. Not a special stay

beautiful high location within the citadel looking out over the river Minho to Tui in Spain only yards away. large rooms with balcony including a bidet. plenty of stairs some with ramps. some elements looking a bit worn. service slow in restaurant probably because reception tried to book all guests in for the same 7.30pm meal start. but food good.

Hôtel avec un charme ancien dans un Cadre magnifique au cœur de la citadelle avec une vue sur le fleuve et l Espagne . Chambre meublée décor bois des années 70 comme l’ensemble de l’hôtel. Il faut aimé ou pas. Le buffet du petit-déjeuner est très correct.

Lovely Lobby w fireplace , breezy patio bar and breakfast..all W views over the Minho overlooking Tui. Many establish here so the language is getting easier and easier. Easy check in and feels upscale. Bathtub, nice soap products and towels . View from room great

El sitio esta lleno de encanto, las murallas, la desembocadura del rio Miño, .. todo te transporta a la antiguedad. Sin embargo las camas no son tan comodas como esperabamos por lo que la estancia de un fin de semana nos llego. Echamos de menos un gimnasio y una piscina.

Pousada com uma vista fantástica e com charme. Está dentro da muralha e permite visita ao logo da muralha. Muito bonita. Quartos confortáveis sem serem brilhantes e o pequeno almoço muito bom. Preço algo elevado tendo em conta a realidade local.

World-class hotel in a World-class historic location with World-class views and World-class service! I wholeheartedly recommend this truly unique, beautiful hotel overlooking Minho River, which is also the border between Portugal and Spain (less than 15 minutes to walk across/above the border on the bridge to Spain ).

Um grupo de três casais passou aqui duas noites muito agradáveis com um jantar. Quartos amplos limpos com o conforto adequado. A esplanada também é agradável. A localização dentro da Fortaleza também é uma mais valia. Recomendamos.
