The Swan Hotel

First time at Upton Festival and we ended up here for the music and drinks. As you can imagine packed with people but wanted to say a massive thank you to the Team that served us. Huge queues for the bar but the staff were efficient, friendly and always smiling! Thank you!

Visited during a quiet lunchtime on a sunny midday week day. The lady behind the Bar was pleasant and friendly. After eating at The Swan Hotel previously, (under previous management), we looked at the menu and decided to grab some lunch. After waiting 35 mins for a Bacon Chop and Scampi, we received our food. The bar was quiet about 4 couples eating, we received our food, one plate at a time from a young man, who was also pleasant and friendly. The food look really unappetising. Very plain and boring. Yes, it’s Pub food but come on! My Bacon Chop was really dry and tough, as if it had been defrosted quickly, and/or cooked in the microwave then finished on the chargrill. The fried egg was overcooked and tasted strange and not nice. Both chips were just warm. My wife’s Scampi was ‘just okay’, but fried heavily, the mushy peas were bland and cold. We ate our food as we were starving having had the 35 mins wait. No one came to check on us. After the meal I spoke to who I believe the Landlady. She was very pleasant when I spoke with her. I gave her our feedback to assist the business as locals we always try and support local where possible. I did not want any money back as I would ask for that. She mentioned that she normally gets very good reviews, which I can see on Trip Advisor. But I just don’t get it, really? Is this the best Upton has got to offer nowadays? Very disappointed by our food , although the staff were good.

Our 5th stay at The swan, whenever we visit Upton The swan is our go to place. It's a gem, it's a wonderful old building, full of character and charm. The bathrooms has changed some since our last visit, a job well done. We had room 2, this time, overlooking the river, stunning views. The food is always tasty, never had any complaints there, uncomplicated menu, and great food. And last but by no means least, is the staff, just marvelous, welcoming, friendly and so very helpful, we have always been looked after well whilst staying at the Swan. Luke is doing a great job, and has a great team, and it's clear to see, and nice to see happy staff. Debbie we have met from our very first visit to the swan, 5 years ago, feels like going back to see a friend now, nothing is too much trouble for her and the other staff too, sorry guys I don't know all your names, but thankyou to you every single one of you for our lovely stay once again.! Despite a minor mix-up with room allocation upon arrival, customer service was outstanding, room was very modern and immaculately clean and with hairdryer, fan, tea and coffee making facilities. Room 1 was lovely with dual aspect windows, with view looking straight down the river. Luxurious mattress, good quality bedding and even a separate make up mirror at desk (very handy for pre-wedding guest prep). Highly recommend staying for breakfast the mext morning - one of the best a la carte brekkies we've ever had! 10/10 customer care and the manager even moved her car to allow us a place to park. Highly recommend and we will definitely return.

We booked tonight for the Steak Night £30 deal to include a bottle of wine. On ordering our wine we were told there was a surcharge of £5 for the wine we always had at no extra charge. We ordered extras: onion rings and pepper corn sauce. Ollie said “he needed to do the maths” and put it on a tab! As he didn’t know what the bill was. He went off to talk to a man at the end of the bar for the duration whilst Paige was polite and served our food whilst he clicked his fingers to see to us. I wasn’t impressed by his attitude. The bill came to £49.80 almost £20 over the £30 meal deal. Living in Upton and having used the Swan regularly, we would not recommend to friends and family and use again after this experience tonight.

Nice modern bar in a quaint olde builg by the river. Has rooms above but parking is a problem for me with a vulnerable classic. There is outside seating on three sides. Only popped in for drinks perusing the menu was very tempting and surprisingly reasonable.
