Very nice and helpful staff. Silky smooth checkin and check out. Exceptional breakfast. Room is a bit dated but still spacious enough for 3 people. Hotel environment is great too. Lots of facilities… thought we didn’t have a chance to use them. Highly recommend.

The staff are very welcoming. In fact everyone that passed was very friend. The staff made up for the hotel. Our room and bathroom was large but very tiered. It definitely need s makeover .sorry for telling the truth it needs money spent on it and it would be a great place to come to. We look forward with interest if it gets a,injection of money we will be back.

I have just got home from the macdonald Houston hotel , and I would give it more than 5 stars if I could , the staff were amazing , I received 2 spa treatments from Tanya who was absolutely amazing at her job and so pleasant , I got the back neck and shoulder massage , and the best foot forward which I might add the best treatment I have ever had . Kirsty in reception was very professional and kind and greeted us with a smile , a definite asset to ur hotel , we had a couple of minor issues with the room but Kirsty was amazing and rectified so quickly , we had dinner in the restaurant which was beautiful, then cocktails in the bar , I did find there wasn’t many cocktails on the list but the peach Bellini was beautiful, and the staff were lovely , after a lovey sleep we headed to breakfast where we were served by Sienna , what a beautiful pleasant young woman and was very attentive to our needs . Finally on checkout Clair was so appreciative of our stay . I believe the staff make a business as they are the first and last people you see and ur staff are amazing . Thank you and we will be back .

Edinburgh based, but booked a night away for the wife's birthday to treat her, and myself. Got there really to use the spa area but were able to check in early. Receptionist was so friendly and welcoming it was a great start to the night. Couple of hours in the sauna and steam room before back to the hotel to a bonus bottle of bubbly from the hotel manager. That helped us to get ready before going to the restaurant. Three course meal with wine, all of which was excellent, but special mention to the Hollandaise sauce with the cod which was the nicest I've ever eaten. Lovely touch from the hotel to give my wife a wee treat board before dessert to mark her birthday. Waiting staff attentive but not not overly so which is how it should be. Down to the bar for a couple of drams and again staff so friendly and chatty, but not overly so. Comfy night's sleep and then down for a cooked breakfast, also excellent before checking out. Genuinely can't think of a single thing to improve it and would wholeheartedly recommend this place for a night away from it all, or even longer I suspect.

Overall very good, with beautiful surroundings. A typical Scottish mansion with very nice and friendly staff. The hotel is showing some signs of wear and could benefit from a general update.

EV chargers were quite good, you need to download the Roam app first to use them. The receptionist was excellent and very welcoming. Our room was ok, on the small size, bed was ok but could have been better. The coffee machine was good, and water in the room was appreciated. We ate in the bar and it was absolutely freezing, food was not great. We had breakfast next day, this was good but there was an extra charge for avocado on toast. All in it was ok but a few small changes would have improved it overall.

Stayed at Houdoun House Hotel while in Edinburgh (for business). Beautiful building and setting… tired execution. Rooms felt old and worn, in need of refitting. Not as clean as they should be either. A mysterious stain on the carpet. Room service was available, but I didn’t risk it. To my surprise, the Tower Restaurant served mostly “traditional” chain pub food, curries, burgers, lasagnes… not what I expected from a hotel in this setting. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and had dinner anyway. Ordered haggis bonbons to start. Tasted like the same frozen ones you can find in almost any chain restaurant north of the M6. Edible, but not great. Main course was Makhani Cauliflower. Sounded promising, but the sauce was mediocre and the cauliflower itself was wet and overcooked. Big disappointment. I had breakfast early, first in the dining room. Maybe everyone else was skipping it? Food was standard hotel clobber, not good, but not bad. Would I return? No. Plenty of better options in Edinburgh.
