We don’t travel often any more so when we do we want the places we stay to be special, McCaffrey House exceeded that expectation and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The owner has created an immaculate retreat from the world that yet has every necessary modern amenity. The setting and architectural interest of the 8 room house is captivating. Our room with 2 queen beds (Sage) was large, comfortable and we slept well. The breakfast was exceptional and the hostess / owner was a joy to chat with. When someone knows how to deliver a great guest experience and then custom builds a house just to be a top flight B&B, you get McCaffrey House.

This review is about a stay that didn't happen. My husband and I had reservations at McCaffrey House for 3 nights. On the morning that we were supposed to leave, my husband started to feel faint and his pacemaker shocked him. We rushed to the ER in Mammoth Lakes and he was subsequently put on a life flight to another hospital. I texted McCaffrey House very quickly and said we wouldn't make our reservation, fully realizing that we would probably lose our money. By that afternoon, I had a text from Stephanie telling me she had refunded us for our stay. I hadn't asked for a refund, but it as welcome relief. My husband is back home and recovering. Knowing that this is the kind of understanding and concern shown by the owners of McCaffrey House , I cannot thank them enough and highly encourage anyone to spend time there. I'm sure they are wonderful people and the Inn looks amazing. Thank you again Stephanie for your kindness. We hope to someday make it there.

Stephanie is very nice, so I feel bad writing a negative review, but I want to warn others. I had to leave the inn at 10 PM on the very first night I was supposed to stay there; in other words, I didn't even make it one night, in very cold weather, and searched for a place to stay as it was too late to drive all the way home. I don't feel comfortable with a couple of alarming things happening there. The reason I left is that a permanent resident is living in the room next to the one I was put in (after booking a different room) and he is very sick and was literally hawking loogies, and coughing so loudly even two-five minutes that I couldn't work or have any chance of relaxing or sleeping. This is not cool. No one escapes the city for the mountains to be put into that situation. It turns out he recently had COVID-19 or still has it or something, I don't know, but now, on top of not being able to work, which is why I was there, or sleep, and having to drive around in the dark to find a new place, I have to worry about getting covid. It really sucks. On the other side of me, the room I had carefully chosen, there is another "resident" who lives there. So, I was put between a super sick person and another resident. It felt icky when I was told on the phone that I was moved because this room was nicer than the one I chose only to find out that someone is literally living in there. SIGH And, while Stephanie is great to chat with and was, again, very nice. There was a huge issue with the heat, which kept blasting in my room even when it was off. The heat vent is directly above the desk-workspace, so it made it hard to work, but I was prepared to deal with it until hours of hacking, coughing, and hawking loogies happened, which was like torture. I went up there to relax and rejuvenate and to do some writing, only to be put in a really bad situation that the innkeeper had known about all along. First of all, the room I originally requested should not be listed if someone lives in it. And no one should be put near anyone still coughing from a recent bought of COVID-19. It's dangerous. The noise was beyond inconsiderate. I didn't even get a refund for the night I was there until 10 pm in a really bad situation, but did get a refund for the second night. I got no sleep after having to drive around late at night, and then my trip up there was cut short and I had to drive home. As well, the WiFi is sketchy at best. The only good thing about it was the massage with Sarah, but when I got the confirmation email when I booked, it was offered at $85, and then I was charged $95; that's frustrating. Stephanie is a sweet lady who I enjoyed chatting with but the whole operation is so unorganized and unprofessional. It was like staying at a relatives. Uncomfortable in every possible way. There was no way to work or relax, and I was put into a dangerous situation being next to someone who either has COVID-which it seems he does with th

Beautiful, relaxing, very enjoyable stay. Loved the expansive patio where you could sit and be surrounded by the forest. Lovely rooms and so many books!! Nice breakfast too. All the staff were very friendly. Would definitely come back.

We stayed at McCaffrey House for a long week-end of ski. I'm so glad we discovered this little gem in the Sierra. Stephanie and the team will prepare you a different breakfast every morning. They are so excited about their breakfast recipes that it becomes a thing and you can't wait to get up in the morning to see what's on the menu today. If your kid is picky, they accommodate with kid food. The House is very well maintained. 20min from ski resort and there are a number of small Sierra towns around to be discovered. The staff is super nice and Stephanie has always good tips for you to visit the surroundings.

We stayed over MLK weekend because we wanted to take our 9-month-old lab to the snow for the first time. From the moment we arrived to the moment, we left there was so much hospitality. We stayed in Wedgewood which is on the second story and at the front of the house. The room was cozy, clean, and a perfect place to relax. The first night, our puppy had a hard time falling asleep since it was his first overnight trip, and would give a single alert bark to anything he heard. We were paranoid that he was disturbing the other guests and after a sleepless night, we decided we would head home early instead of staying another night. At breakfast, Stephanie asked how our night went and how our puppy did. We apologized and let her know we were going to leave instead of staying the night again because of his barking. She let me know there was no reason to leave and absolutely no one heard anything. She encouraged us to complete our stay. After another guest at breakfast said they were worried as well because their dogs barked a couple of times, but we heard nothing at all, we happily decided to stay another night. We are so happy we did because our pup did so well the second night. Breakfast was hearty, filling, and delicious. For January, I was impressed at the quality of the fruit served and glad to hear that the eggs were local from a small group of chickens. McCaffrey House is right off the highway with easy access to Sonora (where we are dinner each night) and Pinecrest (where we went to place in the snow). True hospitality and personal care. Highly recommend and look forward to returning whenever we plan to go back to the area.

We spontaneously decided to drive up to experience the snow. The McCaffery House Bed And Breakfast Inn exceeded our expectations. Stephanie and Nannette were wonderful hosts and welcoming to our Corgi as well. Our spacious and cozy second floor room afforded a beautiful birds eye view of the snow falling outside with the fire place providing warmth and atmosphere. The breakfast was hearty and delicious and beautifully served in their lovely dining room. Parking is convenient and all the individual rooms as well as the House have good security. We hope to return soon.
