Very unique place to stay. Staff really friendly and helpful, if a little understaffed. Would stay here again

The property was a nice period property but was in need of done refurbishment.

Went for a special meal with my father, but we came away disappointed. My father had the Ox Cheeks (plural on the menu) but there was only one, so surely it should be listed as an Ox cheek?? Had it been large, then maybe it could be forgiven, but it wasn't particularly large at all. He said it tasted really nice though and there was a good selection of vegetables with it, although he said the sprouts were watery so were probably frozen. I had the grilled Sea Bass with Broccoli, Peas & New potatoes. The Sea Bass skin was soft and soggy and certainly didn't look like it had been grilled. There were 3 of the smallest Broccoli florets ever, and none of them were as big as my thumb. The peas only just covered the bottom of the deep dish plate and they werent fresh but frozen peas. As for the new potatoes, there were two cut in half. Very poor value for £18.49. We also both had a half pint of coke each and these were almost £3 each, thats £6 a pint........for coke?? That's dearer than Beer!!! It's no wonder pubs are struggling if they can't offer value for money. And be assured, this IS just a pub, not a Michelin star restaurant as it almost likes to put itself across as. Not the worse place I have been, but very poor value since the last time I visited here.

This isn’t my first visit to the Dog and Partridge. A beautiful building with a very warm welcome. We stayed in Tutbury for four nights at the Dog. The rooms are wonderful, made by the age of the building. Packed full of character. The bedrooms are large and spacious and each one is unique. 17th Century coaching houses weren’t built uniformly… The beds are large and comfortable and for a very cold winter stay they are very warm.. Food at the hotel is good and there is a great selection of ales to choose from. The warm welcome from everyone makes a stay here a special stay be it the staff or villagers who use the bar as their local. I must highlight Lucy and Curtis for their standout manner in which they dealt with a large group of customers who undeservingly felt it necessary to complain. They both acted in an exceptionally professional manner and calmly and efficiently bought the complaint made to a swift and satisfactory end. They are both a credit to the team at the D&P. I am already looking forward to my next visit and I will definitely stay here again

Would recommend. Great place to stay. Real olde worlde. Beer selection was good, breakfast great. Room was clean.

Great value Lovely old fashioned coaching Inn. Fabulous bar area, quirky comfortable large rooms. Nice dinner, great breakfast (included in price). Very good value.
