The room has no air conditioning and poor ventilation, which makes it a bit stuffy in summer. The air conditioning fan provided is a bit dirty. Dinner is unpalatable and expensive.

I booked a 3 night stay to propose to my then girlfriend (she said yes!!!) The whole team were amazing in ensuring everything I wanted was in place. They did an amazing job in setting up the wedding gazebo, rose petals in the room - it was perfect. We ate in Reflections and AG's - both were lovely. They even got us something not on the menu! We went to the spa a couple of times, and really enjoyed that, and had an amazing couples massage. Everyone there really went above and beyond - all smiling and helpful. Lounges, bars and over all décor were really nice. Fully recommend

I booked a spa day for myself and my daughter for her birthday present. Something I had to save up for, as it was not cheap. We were expecting amazing things and have been wanting to come to the spa day here for a while. The inside spa was lovely and relaxing although would have been nicer to have actual beds rather than just chairs. What was really disappointing unfortunately was the lunch. We booked for 12.30pm and had to choose on arrival from a set menu of starter and main. When we arrived to sit down at 12.30pm there was only one other table in use so quiet. The service was so slow and not professional. We were not offered any drinks, we had to ask for a drinks menu and eventually were brought our drinks. Our starter arrived after 40minutes, and considering we only ordered a salad and cold soup not sure what the delay was. The soup was missing the croutons, and Melba toast and when I asked, the waitress didn’t really know why? Our main of steak sandwich was then another 40 minutes to arrive. We were not told why there was a delay at any time, no apologies or explanations. The lady next to us gave up and left before her main arrived. As we only had a few hours booked in the spa, spending over 2 hours over lunch was not the plan. When we finished our day and went to reception, I noticed that there was a service charge on our bill for our 2 drinks which I did not feel was fair to pay. We did tell reception about our experience over lunch, she said sorry but nothing else was offered. To be honest it did taint the day for us and I wouldn’t be rushing back.

We stayed here for a 40th birthday celebration and sadly discovered this hotel is very much style over substance. It was a hot weekend and the windows in our room would not stay open. After telling reception and being assured it would be fixed we were given a AC machine which did no good and no fixed windows. Leading to an uncomfortable night. After using the spa we were told we could not sit outside in dressing gowns (at a spa hotel!) Then after we changed saw other couples doing exactly that. We waited an hour for lunch and then an hour for breakfast (which was wrong). I emailed the hotel with my issues and no reply for two weeks despite a further email and completing the obligatory survey. Don't stay here if you want good customer service! The hotel otherwise is fine but overpriced for what it is. We will not be going back.

It’s a beautiful hotel and the spa is lovely but the service at dinner was a disaster. Our table booking was 8.15. We ordered immediately having already seen the menu during our time at the spa and were very hungry. The starter arrived an hour and 15 minutes later at 9.30, and the main course at 10.10pm. We had to chase for updates and no bread etc was offered. Didn’t bother to wait another half hour for desert, drove to the local petrol station and bought chocolate! The room (Elm Suite) was far too warm: there is no AC and the towel rail in the bathroom can’t be turned off so I think heats up the suite, even if you keep the bathroom door shut. I’m glad we came this weekend rather than during one of the warmer days, but I still found it hard to sleep with the window open fully overnight and the getting the fan out of the wardrobe and having that on high all night.

We booked the Alexander House Hotel for a relaxing night away over the weekend with a hint of luxury. That's not what we got. The room we booked was the Deluxe garden suite, which was lovely, and the spa facilities were excellent, but that was where the good things stopped. In the Champagne bar, whether lunchtime or early evening, you had to wait 10-15 minutes to order two Gin and Tonics, then wait a further 30 minutes to actually receive them. I heard one staff member say to another member of staff, "These guests think they are so bloody entitled" After another guest complained to them about the length of time it took to get a drink. I think that when you are paying £700/night to stay there, you should be entitled to good service. However, it gets worse, at breakfast both mornings, the service was again terrible, taking nearly 45 minutes after ordering to receive the boiled eggs we had ordered. We gave up waiting the first morning, with the promise from reception that it would not happen the next morning, but 45 minutes for a boiled egg is ridiculous, and it was at least that wait, if not more, if you wanted to go for the full English. Then we move on to Dinner. The first night the food was acceptable but not outstanding; however, when given the wine list, I had to make five different selections before find a wine they actually had in stock! The second night, they still had issues with their wine stocks, and the food went downhill. My wife and I both had the same starter, Ceviche of sea bream with chilli and orange, what we got was some lumps of fish with two slivers of chilli and a segment of orange in a bit of juice, which was completely tasteless and looked like it had been prepared by a five year old. The main course did not get any better. I had the Catch of the day, which was Octopus served with couscous. The octopus was overcooked, as it was akin to eating a piece of rubber from a tyre, and the couscous was so salty it rendered it unedible. My wife had the chicken breast, we were not sure what they had done to it, but it was more like reformed processed chicken with no flavour, and the tomatoes were supposed to be grilled but were raw, and the potatoes were flavourless like the rest of the dish. Subsequently, we sent our starters and our main courses back, and we left the restaurant. We complained at the reception, as the restaurant staff said "ok, sorry" when we complained. Reception arranged for us to have two ham sandwiches sent to our room; surely the chef could manage that, but no, they had to put mustard in the sandwich, which neither of us asked for, as we are not keen on mustard. At this point, we just gave up trying to eat anything that evening. On check-out, I asked to speak to the general manager, and was told he was busy, to which I then asked the receptionist if that was not the general manager pointing to a suited guy, I was told yes, but he was with someone. At that point, the manager left the people he had been talking to

We love staying at the AH. We had as always the most wonderful and relaxing time. The staff are like family to us. We stayed in Oak - spa room which was immaculately clean. The spa itself was clean with plenty of Sun loungers. We enjoyed having our drinks served to us in the spa. Thank you to Reece for organising our stay and to the front of house staff. It was great to see Malcolm again the GM who truly cares about the guests and his staff. We had room service for breakfast and dinner and could not fault it. We look forward to returning in September. Thank you again.

We chose the Alexander for a relaxing spa weekend to celebrate our 20th anniversary. Our stay was a mixed experience with some pleasant, but also quite a few unexpected and disappointing experiences especially given that this is a 5 star spa hotel. All of the staff that we encountered were very helpful and friendly. For example, when my husband and I went to use outside seating after breakfast, staff appeared unasked with the cushions for the seating. Unfortunately, the lawn area around the seating was literally covered in cigarette butts and a crumpled crisp packet which was unexpected and unpleasant. Our spa treatment was very good and we appreciated the relaxation rooms afterwards. The outdoor hot tub was also a great discovery and we appreciated being able to use the spa until 1pm on the day of checkout. Unfortunately, our experience of the spa facilities was diminished because the temperature of the outdoor sauna was tepid and therefore unusable, and the steam rooms in both the male and female changing rooms were also not working properly. Our ground floor suite was large with a lovely bathroom. Unfortunately, the soundproofing in the new suites is inadequate. For example, we were awoken at 6:30am on Sunday morning by loud banging which was followed by heavy walking above our heads from 6:30 until 8am. I would not say that this was a 5-star experience.
