SCAM!! I went to Tulsa on a business trip and as an assistant, I was told to book a room at Residence Inn. When I arrived, I went inside to inquire about the details of the room, parking, etc. but I needed time to communicate those details to my manager. The receptionist at the front desk said that I should book a room just in case because it’s possible the rooms may sell out quickly. She told me that there was no risk to doing this as it was fully refundable if I chose not to stay. I stayed in the lobby for less than an hour, never stepped foot in a room or anything. When my manager told me that she found a better option, I cancelled the reservation with the receptionist and left. I stayed in a different Residence Inn and I have the receipt. A few weeks later, I checked my account and saw that they still hadn’t refunded my card. I immediately called the receptionist and she told me that it was weird that the charge hadn’t been refunded yet but maybe it was due to a processing error that would be fixed by the end of the month when they reconcile their accounts. She told me she would inform her manager and also gave me his email address just in case I wanted to contact him directly. I emailed him but misspelled Marriott by forgetting one of the t’s, but either way, she was supposed to inform him. I called back a few times after that but I ultimately forgot about it while trying to be patient. A year later, while doing my taxes and going over my credit card statements, I realized that they still hadn’t refunded my card. I contacted them again by phone and the receptionist told me that they had cancelled it but charged me a cancellation fee of $169. When I emailed the hotel manager again, I spelled Marriott correctly and talked to a different manager. I forwarded her my initial email, receipt from the other hotel, and gave her all the details. Initially, she told me they didn’t have a record of my transaction (even though the lady on the phone could see it clearly). Then she told me that they couldn’t process a refund because they were finding out about it a year later. As if I hadn’t already called and emailed them prior to this and as if the receptionist hadn’t promised me a refund and also told me she would tell her manager. Don’t believe them if they say you will get a refund even if you were tricked into placing your card on file (in person), cancelled in person less than an hour later, never left the lobby and never even stepped foot in a room. Shame. PS, TripAdvisor is making me pick a date and the earliest it’s letting me pick is May 2023 but that is not when I made this reservation or stayed there. Thanks.
