La Sigrina Tuy

Here is my review from the booking website, "La SIGRINA Tuy was our sanctuary after a long day of walking the Portugeuse Camino, there was nothing that we didn't like. Our room was delightful, spacious, modern, soft comfortable bed, air-conditioned, TV, WIFI, neat and tidy bathroom with plenty of towels. There were many communal spaces in the hostel to enjoy, we only spent time on the rooftop terrace for an afternoon drink and use the drying rack in the last of the afternoon sunshine. Overnight it was all quiet at the hostel, all guests were respectful of each other, in fact there are signs on the walls in the common areas reminding others to be quiet. Breakfast is served from 0730, each room is assigned a table with your breakfast supplies on, which was a generous plate of sliced bread, sweet pastries and cake. There was yoghurts, juice, packs of slices cold meat and cheese in the refrigerator for all, as well as cereals, biscuits and fresh fruit. I prearranged with La SIGRINA prior to our arrival for the use of a kettle to make a tea otherwise theres only coffee or milk. Check-in was completed on-line a day or two in-advance and an access code was given for entry into the building, there was no staff to welcome us and everything went well. A most enjoyable stay. Room smelled really bad, like musty and moldy. The window opened but it was incredibly hot when we were there and no AC (which I know is common). I honestly don’t know if they can do anything about the smell- it seemed like it was in the walls or the floor or something. Good location but would not return.

The room we were given at La Sigrina in Tui was poor. It was in a dingy basement accessed through a rubbish strewn unused 'bar' area. We felt the room was unsafe. The bed was on a kind of mezzanine, up two large steps with no handrail and a flimsy trellis to prevent people falling off the edge. The room had poor ventilation (the window opened onto a access way and so couldn't be opened) and lack of aircon made it stuffy and uncomfortable to sleep in. La Sigrina uses push button combination locks on all the doors. The lock on our door was difficult to use and we expect will break soon. Keys would be better. On the positive side, it is centrally located in Tui, the room had a good shower and the proprietor was enthusiastic and helpful. The breakfast looked good but we didn't eat it as we wanted to start our Camino. Note the breakfast was set out on individual tables which we find is wasteful. We'd prefer a buffet style breakfast so we can take what we want and don't leave any unwanted food to waste.

This property is a gem in every sense… Without a doubt our favorite lodging on the Camino Portugese. Brother co-owners/hosts clearly take incredible pride in providing outstanding personal service.  Security was excellent, rooms spacious, well appointed, modern, very clean, bedding was fresh and clean, beds comfortable, there was a beautiful patio with outside bar for cocktails and snacks, “La piece de resistance”…breakfast!! Each room had a table in the dining room with pre-prepared pastries, croissants and bread, there was refrigerator stocked with meats, cheese, yogurt, there was also fresh fruit, cereal and plentiful coffee. Do not hesitate to stay here! We will return if we revisit Tui in the future Thank you again to Miguel and Mario for making our stay so special!
