My wife and I had a delightful weekend at the Gardner Farm Inn. This historic home is wonderfully unique. Quirky decorations abound! And John's stories of each delight. Every room is individually themed. We had a blast exploring the John Waters Suite. And the breakfasts were delicious! John knows how to cook a tasty and satisfying meal. We highly recommend Gardner Farm Inn.

My husband and I stayed at the Inn for the first time this past weekend. By the end of the weekend I didn't want to leave. John, the proprietor, couldn't have been more welcoming and we feel like we've made a new friend. The Inn is clean and comfortable and each room has its own unique identity. It would be impossible to adequately describe the creative, inventive, fun way John has furnished and decorated the Inn, with antiques and all kinds of delightful things to discover. We got lucky with warm sunny weather to enjoy the patio and beautiful gardens, where we ate John's excellent breakfasts and just relaxed. We look forward to returning soon!

John Hughes is a wonderful host, and made my stay memorable. He has a comprehensive grasp of the art of hospitality, but beyond that he is a great and engaging person. The Inn is eclectic and very fun. I stayed in the Mae West room, which has a marvelous bathroom with a giant tub. Breakfast of French toast was tasty. All in all, a place to slow down, relax and enjoy.

My college roommate and I stayed with John during the Belmont Stakes race weekend in Saratoga Springs (about 20 minutes north). John's Inn is super cozy and cool and chock full of interesting art and do dads (like a museum). The outdoor area is super well tended, with flowers and more art. Being the oasis that it is, chipmunks and rabbits and birds run / fly around his back patio / seating area. The bedroom we booked, had two twin beds that were super comfortable and the best pillows that I've had anywhere (feather pillows that were not too stuffed or empty). I slept like a baby both nights. Shower had great water pressure and plenty of hot water. John's breakfast was spectacular (he varied it from day to day and each day was better than the last). You can sit outside on his patio, which we did, but one day we just sat around the island in his kitchen and ate with John and the other guests, while John cooked and we all chatted. Felt like home. His super chill, very sweet dogs (two rescue greyhounds) hung out and minded their own business but did enjoy being patted as well. John is an extremely gracious host and you will be very happy if you take my advice and give The Garden Farm Inn a try. Cheers and thanks for a fine weekend John. I'll be back with my daughter one day. Larry S

When you stay someplace where you feel like you are welcomed like long lost family, the furnishings are comfortable and cozy and the breakfast is phenomenal you may not want to ever leave. This is the experience John Hughes provides at his irresistible bed and breakfast in Troy. We stayed recently at his bed and breakfast when visiting a local school. John went above and beyond to make us comfortable and very graciously accommodated an evolving food allergy in our daughter. The experience exceeded all expectations and we feel as though we have made a great friend and look forward to returning soon.

If you are looking for a Victorian-era type mansion offering a countryside breakfast, much like you would expect in the U.K., countryside, you will love it here. What's more, John, who is the owner and host, makes the breakfast for you. John is very passionate about his workplace and the Inn and, will go out of his way to make your stay pleasant and comfortable. He has a small but efficient team to clean the rooms etc. The rooms are large comprising of a twin bed, a couple of Queen bedrooms and, two King bedrooms, or at least this is what I think. The rooms are large-size and very tastefully decorated. The artistic capabilities of John is amazing. He is creative. The rooms have the air of the old style but offers luxurious beds, large toilets with bathtubs. The Gardner Farm Inn is set in one of the main suburban areas of Troy, with a lot of greenery and trees surrounding it. It is close to Renssalaer University and The furniture is also handpicked and quite comfortable. There is a library with a large TV the guests could use. I wish there were TV's in rooms though. Finally, two greyhounds will be there, looking for you to pet them. They are absolutely harmless and extremely friendly. Guests staying here will not be disappointed one bit.

We stopped at Gardner Inn, en route home from the Adirondacks. It was the perfect cozy spot to relax, unwind and be spoiled with a tasty breakfast. Many beautiful and unique pieces in the house. Stunning property on the top of the hill with incredible sunlight, a fresh breeze at night and high ceilings and doors. John was a perfect host and made us feel so welcome.

John called me prior to my stay to see if I had any dietary restrictions & met me outside upon my arrival. His entire house, built in the late 1700s, is absolutely beautiful & artfully curated. Breakfast was absolutely delicious (bacon, asparagus/broccoli/cheddar omelet, fresh seasoned tomato, & coffee). The last night I was there, I got a chance to chat with John downstairs- I immediately got a very kind, relaxed vibe from him but after talking with him for a while I felt like we were old friends. 100000% recommend if you're headed to Troy!!
