Holiday Inn Express & Suites Troy

Stayed here about a year and a half ago and we’re really happy with everything. I can report that the beds and sheets are still very comfortable. Check in clerk was not aware that we already paid for the room and would have charged us if we hadn’t forced him to look it up. Our room on the third floor smelled like an old locker room covered with some sort of unpleasant perfume. There was only one place to lounge in our king room although there would have been plenty of room for another chair. The white plastic window shade had a hole in it, and the windows were dirty, made more evident by the sunlight streaming through them. The refrigerator had a odd backing and was dripping with water on the inside. In the bathroom, the ceiling above the sink had a door on it, which was partly opened and looked like it had been poorly painted over several times. The bathtub drain had a lot of rust around it and the floor of the shower had a dirty residue of rubber stripping that had been removed. The toilet was very old and low like it had not been updated since the 1980s. I’m not going to say it was dirty, although it gave an impression that affects the comfort level of a guest. Probably will not return.

Our room was on the third floor, east side of the elevators, I'm trying to remember the exact room number. I want to say 307. I have never stayed in a hotel room that smelled so bad. A mixture of mold and old smoke as if the room used to be for smokers. We tried to change rooms but they were fully booked. AC didn't help, I ended up with a migraine it was so noxious. Pull out couch mattress was also gross and stained. Also asked for a different mattress and was told they had none to switch it out and offered more sheets. Common areas, staff and pool were fine.

The hotel was very clean and has a welcoming feel. It is conveniently located near the interstate, close to multiple restaurants, a Walmart and gas stations. The hotel provides bottles of water in the lobby and fresh baked chocolate chip cookies on weekdays, a charming perk. Most notably, any staff we encountered were friendly, professional and invested in the quality of our experience. I have to express that we particularly enjoyed the variety and quality of breakfast items provided, which was included in our stay. The woman that provided breakfast service, Karen, was particularly kind and went our of her way to ensure we had everything we wanted since we came down near the cut off time. If we ever return to this area, we would stay here again.

I love Holiday Inn Expresses and like to choose them when traveling. This was very nice but some things were broken in the room that needed fixing. The dining room where breakfast was had a very sticky floor. Stains on the carpet in the hall were evident. Not the usual standard for an Holiday Inn Express.
