Iberostar Waves Málaga Playa
4.2/542 Reviews
I would not recommend Iberostar Malaga Waves Playa, especially if you're seeking a true 5-star experience. Unfortunately, this resort falls short in many areas, and the recurring complaints from other guests align with our experience. The management seems to acknowledge frustrations but fails to address the underlying issues, as we experienced firsthand. **Check-in:** The process was chaotic and slow, with many guests waiting and only one staff member at the front desk. Thankfully, a helpful bellboy stepped in and saved the day by assisting with our check-in, which otherwise would have taken much longer. **Staff:** While most of the staff were unprofessional and at times, even rude, I must highlight two exceptional employees: the bellboy and a staff member at the snack bar—both coincidentally related. Additionally, the team at Star Camp was fantastic. Unfortunately, the rest of the staff seemed disengaged, likely due to poor management. It’s apparent they are overworked, underpaid, and undertrained, which inevitably affects their attitude and performance. One glaring example was when I waited at the bar for over 10 minutes, watching other guests be served before me. When I finally asked the bartender what I needed to do to be served, his response was simply, ”I'm working.” Situations like this occurred repeatedly during our stay. **Food:** The buffet left much to be desired. The food seemed like low-quality, reheated frozen meals, and the lack of clear labeling was frustrating, especially for those with dietary restrictions or allergies. There were no indications of ingredients, making dining a guessing game. Long lines were the norm, even during the off-season, and the restaurant was uncomfortably hot—making me feel for the staff working in those conditions. Once again, it felt like management was cutting corners, both for guests and employees. To top it off, they charge exorbitant prices for basics like filtered water. **Accommodations:** I booked a suite with a full kitchen, expecting spacious comfort. What we got was a cramped, small room packed with too much furniture. The TV offered only basic channels, and all the ports (HDMI, USB) were locked, making it impossible to connect any external devices like a Roku or Firestick. It was frustrating to have no control over such a basic amenity in a suite that costs this much. **Amenities:** The pool area was chaotic, with guests reserving loungers with towels and leaving others to bake in the sun. There’s only one adult pool, but the water park for kids is a bright spot. The Star Camp and the team running it are excellent, with plenty of activities for children. It’s ironic, but the staff managing the kids' activities seem to be running the best part of the hotel. **Parking:** While parking availability was good, the daily charge of 15 Euros felt steep. Additionally, the magnetic card to exit the garage didn’t work, and there was no easy way to contact the reception. I had to leave the car, e
