Had afternoon tea booked for us. We had seen the hotel during the week so our daughter booked it for us. Lovely oldy/ modern touch hotel with amazing original pannelling and ceilings. We arrived at reception and were shown up to where out tea would be. We had a window table with views over the bridge, the river and Bideford. We chilled out while our tea was put together. Lovely sandwiches, scones to die for and the new style fancies. All totally scrummy. Would we go again? Most certainly

Had Roast Lunch, which was Excellent 👌.Meat was extremely tender, vegetables cooked just right. The whole meal was extremely tasty. Thankyou to the Chef/s......Staff were very polite, professional and very attentive too ...... Overall a really enjoyable Lunch......Thankyou to the Waitresses too..... Highly recommend to Family and Friends....

After cycling 30 miles today from Ilfracombe to Bideford , a super welcome at The Royal Hotel & Merchants Bistro Bideford. A very comfortable room with lots of added extras. A Great stay, right next to the Tarka Cycle Trail . Can’t wait for the Home cooked Breakfast tomorrow.

Information for my fellow Coeliac/lactose intolerant colleagues. A family Sunday Roast booked in advance and requested to state dietary allergies. On the day I was instructed to mention my medical diagnosis to the Carver/Chef. I was then told what I couldn't eat! (I'm 63)! So my choices were quite reduced compared to other diners. I was supplied with a pot of gluten free gravy. Dessert choice on my enquiry was plain fruit salad! (Nothing else!). Extremely disappointing especially as we were asked about my dietary needs at the point of booking. So not worth the money anymore in my opinion.

1st time booking a Sunday carvery here we normally go to Barnstaple hotel or the park unfortunately I don’t think I would rush back we found the the staff members a bit rude nobody asked if everything was ok if we wanted desserts tea coffee etc the chef kept disappearing when lots of people was waiting every thing seemed to have black pepper on it the potatoes was hard so with what I just said I won’t recommend or come again we will stick to Barnstaple the staff here really need to learn from them

I found this online, wanted to try. Visited on Sunday for the Carvery which was delicious and a good portion. We were served by the lovely Michelle who could not have been helpful. (All staff we can into contact with were helpful) Michelle really did go beyond expectations. Thank you so much.
