As I was about to pay the bill at the front desk, the clerk spoke in an unpleasant tone, so I glared at him. The clerk then became furious and said, "What are you glaring at? Apologize! You're banned!" I bowed my head and apologized, but he was still furious and said, "I don't like the tone of your apology. This is customer harassment!" I didn't want to cause any trouble, so I called a smear shop to mediate the situation and everything was fine (apparently the clerk couldn't do this because he was the manager of the hotel). When staying at this hotel, no matter how unpleasant the clerk's attitude is, do not glare at them, but speak to them politely and in honorific language.
