What a wonderful view from your deck. The decks are really on the cliff so you can sit and watch the waves and the lake. The evening we were there there was a storm over the lake and it was fun to watch the lightning reflecting in the water. The people at the front desk were very friendly. The room was clean and comfortable, but a little older. The price was good and they had a minimal breakfast.

Beautiful view and super clean room. Manager has great customer service and I will definitely return. The nightlight was a great touch. Can’t beat waking up to a sunrise over Lake Superior and drinking coffee out on the balcony on a chilly morning.

We stayed at the Cliff Dweller during a hiking and waterfalls trip along Hwy 61. Everything about the stay was fantastic. The room was clean and the bed was so comfortable I would have gladly taken it home! While the balcony areas were basically shared, we loved looking over the lake and being able to relax there. The extra discount at the Cascade restaurant was an unexpected perk and we appreciated the muffins and granola bars offered every morning. Having coffee, tea, cider and hot chocolate available all day was also just a nice touch. They even had the bathroom nightlight. Very well run, all staff interactions were so positive. We would definitely return.

This is a gem. No frills, impeccably clean, great property with a million dollar view. The staff was so kind and friendly. They are making updates to the property and it shows. I do with they offered breakfast, but they do have coffee. 10/10

A very reasonable price to pay for probably the best view of the lake and sunrise you can get! Note, It is an older building. (Inside was totally fine. On the outside, the wood siding and the balcony floor were a bit weathered, so if looks are important to you, don't stay here and then complain about it like some of the reviews do! I think it gives the place character :) Very simple, and very peaceful when we were there (Oct 8-12). The patio/balcony is right on the lakeside (not facing the highway or across highway 61 like some places are). You can hear waves with your patio door cracked open, and you can see the lake right from your bed! We loved it, recommend it, and plan to stay here again. The manager was friendly, informed, and was good at her job.

I found the Cliff Dweller while searching for a place to stay on a trip along the North Shore in September. The price was right, the views on every website I could find were spectacular and the rooms looked comfortable. When we arrived, I can confirm the room was comfortable - although a bit warm - the wall mounted fan only went up and down for oscillation instead of back and forth - and was only aimable one direction - toward the sliding doors. being from Texas, I was hoping for a cool night experience but that was only possible since we had also brought a fan to bring in the cool air from outside. The bed was comfy, the bathroom well equipped. the view from the balcony was amazing. We did not take advantage of the breakfast offerings - coffee, breakfast bars and muffins so cannot comment on the quality. the steps to the second floor were a bit hard to climb with all of our belongings but manageable - just took more trips that we would have been able to accomplish if there was an elevator The staff was very welcoming and friendly and we would stay there again if the opportunity arises. we would just be sure to bring a fan to ensure the room gets cool enough.

We were in the North Shore during peak season so our choices were not great. We didn’t want to drive back to Duluth for the night and then back again. My husband found this hotel, had me look at the website for approval which I gave. The motel room was clean and the view of the lake was very pretty. My issue was the fan on the wall that was supposed to act as an air conditioner unit. Being a female who must have it cool to sleep, this was not the room for me. The room was very stuffy and I was not able to get a good nights sleep since it was so warm in the room. My step daughter said “ it wasn’t that bad”. My husband said “ I’ve stayed in worse”. If I would have been able to stay awake during the four hour drive back, I would have left at midnight and drove home. Breakfast is pre packaged food, beds were twin and walls/floors thin. Many people have left a positive review, you may enjoy it, it just wasn’t for me, I need some AC.

From your parking spot it may look like an old motel (it could use a coat of paint), but then you go to check in and find a welcoming lobby with friendly, helpful staff. We climbed the outdoor metal stairs (that could be a bit treacherous to some with challenges) to arrive at our room. Upon opening the door we found a comfy decent sized room with a north woods feel. The bed was inviting and the towels were thick and absorbent! The balcony is the real winner here with gorgeous up close views of the lake and tree tops. It’s an older balcony, and there isn’t privacy, but it was quiet and peaceful. We did wake up to some loud noise if chairs on our balcony moving around at night loudly and found them knocked over, so either there’s a ghost, or we had a nighttime animal visitor! Very nice stay! Great location. Won’t hesitate to go back! 🙂

Great location, nice room and balcony. The bed was fairly comfortable. The staff is friendly. Parking right outside our door. The road noise was not as loud as you might think. The lake waves were wonderful. Definitely would stay here again.
