We had the pleasure of staying at Toberua for 5 days in July 2024 and had an excellent experience. The small intimate island, the staff, the hospitality, the food, the daily schedules and excursions offered, and the other guests were all amazing. We were there with our 3.5 year old and 6 month old children, who were a hit among staff and tenderly looked after. The small size of the island was especially helpful for nap time for our kids as my husband and I were able to leave the room easily while one person stayed at the room for nap time. The rooms, or bures as they’re called, were beautiful thatched huts with everything we needed, including large porches with swings, hammocks, and a big, walled in outdoor space attached to the bathroom for washing your sandy feet off. Our 3.5 YO son loved napping on the deck chairs on the back porch, looking over the water. Pretty idyllic nap! One particular highlight that made the trip really feel like vacation was that we were able to feed our kids dinner at 6pm during the “kids dinner” time, put them to bed at 7, and then a babysitter would sit outside our room while we went to the regular dinner at 7:30. There was a small additional charge for this babysitting, but very reasonable prices and totally worth it. Having a leisurely parents dinner was a very relaxing luxury! We also took advantage of the babysitting during the day a few times so that my husband and I could go for a snorkel on our own and take our son out on a boat trip while the baby was watched at the resort. The vibe of the island is very relaxed - Fiji time! The people who work there are incredible - warm, friendly, and passionate! The service was excellent - I loved that we had all our needs met and there was always someone to answer a question if needed, but at the same time it felt private and there wasn’t anyone constantly checking in. While the island is relaxed, I greatly appreciated the attention to detail - for example, our room made up daily while we were at breakfast, and kids meals were always delivered first so that they didn’t need to wait too long. The food was excellent! The breakfast was the same everyday for the most part, but the lunch and dinner menu rotated daily and you would have your choice between 3 options (2 course for lunch and 3 course for dinner) that you preselected earlier in the day. Preselecting meals made meal time run much more smoothly. We loved the beach activities and went snorkeling, paddle boarding, and kayaking! For those who prefer big, shiny hotels or hotels fully sealed from the outside, this might not be the place for you. There is no AC, no TVs, there is some wear on the rooms as one might expect on a tiny remote island (ex: our hot water was broken at first and we needed to switch rooms; the sliding door was partially broken in our second room), and there are some critters that you would expect in the tropics - like if you leave a crumb out (like our 3 YO did a few times), tiny island
