Hotel concierge was very accommodating and helped me with my hotel reservation with no qualms and was quick with it. Room was very cozy and clean.

Location was very good. Breakfasts were good, beds and pillows comfy. Staff also good. The bathrooms however, not good. Stained toilets, basins and behind the shower controls. Also the restaurant could do with a spring clean, food and drinks stains up the walls and grubby carpets.

Staying in the nearby Travel lodge, room only, we booked for an evening meal here after seeing a meal deal, the fact that the cast of Dad's Army used to stay there, and we were on a Dad's Army tour weekend. On arrival, we were shown into the guests dining room, and we were 2 of 11 in there (capacity about 50, so not busy). We ordered a drink and a meal and waited. And waited. And waited until, after 25 minutes, we asked for our drinks at least. During this time, the others (guests) who had ordered prior to us, had not been served. They then arrived with our drinks and the excuse that the bar had lost the order! After 40 minutes, I said that if we didn't get some food, we were leaving and were assured it was "minutes" away and a "sudden food rush from the bar" was to blame. So, they were taking preference over guests......... Eventually, another table and the table next to us received their food, 1 hour after ordering, and we got ours, only 50 minutes after ordering. The shame is that the food was actually ok. But the service is appalling! In our opinion, they had no staff and the only 2 girls serving in the restaurant were also tending the bar. And, when we left, straight after we ate the main course, we went and looked in the bar and it was not busy, nor were there many eating. We had planned to go back the next night for a steak deal, but booked the local Indian restaurant instead (it was great). I would also add that the whole place looked quite tired from the outside and threadbare carpets inside, so not a place that has a great first-impression.
