Great location near the shore, and only a few blocks from some shops, pubs and restaurants. The hotel looks like it was at one time a jewel on the coast, but is in need of some updating. The breakfast area and patio are nice and airy. The wait staff at the restaurant were great, as was the man who checked us in. Those are some of the good things. Now for the rest. We booked a Double room-Superior-Ensuite – Breakfast Included. Not sure what a “standard room” would be like, but I’d avoid it. The 10'X12' room was too small for an armoire, desk, upholstered chair, 2 side tables and a bed. There was a foldable luggage rack, but there was nowhere to put it and still be able to get to the bathroom or outside the door, so as needed we used the bed as a rack and then stored our suitcases in the armoire. The desk is used primarily as a tea/coffee station, so there is only 1 foot to spare for any personal items. The bed itself was the deal breaker. A 4' wide small double bed that felt old, hard, and cheap. The kind where the metal support edge is a prominent feature. Top it off with some flat, lifeless pillows, and two adults struggled to sleep. A mattress pad could save this, but a new bed is the true answer. The bathroom was small but clean with a great shower head. The breakfast was just OK, with self-service toast and tea/coffee, cereals, yogurt, and cooked breakfast to order. Very limited fresh fruit (some pears and apples). It is likely there are better rooms (not available when I booked), hopefully they have better beds etc.
