My friend and I stayed here during our visit to Highclere Castle. THE ROOM: The room was great. Beautifully decorated and very cozy. The bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was nice. Our room was on the ground floor, and we didn’t hear any noise from other rooms. The downside was that the room was very warm even though we didn’t have the radiator on. We opened the windows while we were in the room, but it didn’t cool down that much. THE PUB: The pub was nicely decorated, and the food was good. Breakfast was already set up when we came in very early in the morning with a continental selection and we were also able to order off a menu for hot items. In the evenings the pub was cozy, but the music was way too loud. It was at the level it would be if the pub was packed, but there were less than 10 patrons. All in all a great stay, and the location was perfect for our visit to Highclere Castle.

The place looked very inviting from the outside and I was welcomed by a really friendly and helpful Duty Manager, called Mark, at the bar. He explained all the facilities for the accommodation and also advised of the menu for evening meal and breakfast. The twin room was really clean and well presented. The beds were comfy and cosy and all that was needed was provided in the room. Had a great night's sleep (except for the trains at about 5.30am but that is to be expected with a hotel by the station and railway crossing) We were met again in the morning by Mark for Breakfast, which was delicious and adapted to our preferences and also my Gluten intolerances. Nothing was too much trouble, and we were made to feel very welcome. If I ever have the need to return to Thatcham I will most definitely stay here again.
