Lower Lode Inn

The carvery was great for meat eaters. As I am vegetarian i rang ahead but discovered after paying for lunch that the roast potatoes and other items on the veg rack were not for me, not sure if the parsnips and Yorkshire pudding were either, which limited choice somewhat. Had to ask for non meat gravy which was provided when requested. No reduction in price although I had a meat free carvery and chose not to have nut roast alternative. Nice venue, but not the best for a vegetarian .

The room was very clean and I loved the kingfisher Curtains and cushion , the white bedding made it all stand out. Sam & her team were great and very friendly , would stay and visit again , would recommend it to everyone. The food was lush and plentyful

I contacted the Lower Lode to organise a 70th birthday get together for my mum who was visiting from New Zealand. With family coming from Blackpool, Devon and Southampton as well as friends from Portsmouth and Bristol, I needed somewhere centrally located that also offered some accommodation, easy access, a decent Sunday lunch and a pretty location and ideally not at silly gastropub prices. The Lower Lode did not disappoint! From the first phone call I made to Sam, I felt looked after like I was one of the family. Despite me making several changes to our arrangements, she did not bat an eyelid and was friendly and accomodating from start to finish. No problem with us bringing a cake and a few decorations. Those who had rooms said they were very comfortable, clean and quiet. Also very reasonably priced. Sunday carvery was excellent and those in the group who wanted something else were adequately catered for. Every member of staff was friendly, polite and courteous. We could not have been made to feel more relaxed and at home. If you’re looking for an upmarket gastropub or boutique hotel then this probably isn’t the place for you, but if you want a traditional, friendly, well priced pub in a beautiful location where you’re made to feel like one of the family then you should definitely try the Lower Lode Inn. I have a feeling that they won’t be seeing the last of us!

Targeted this inn for its carvery and it was well worth travelling off the beaten track for on a journey from the south to the north of the UK staying off motorways. The carvery was well priced and while there was nothing exceptional there was nothing to be unhappy about either. It was just what we needed.

A very unique pub. Really friendly and carvery had plenty of veg. Everyone seemed to know each other so a good ambience. Not fine dining but reasonably priced. Tables outside and plenty of grassy banks for dogs. We had a real feast and there were lots of campers eating too.

We had a great afternoon, with stunning river views, very relaxing. We were not going to stop for food but in the event glad we did as all courses were hot and wholesome, very impressed. Location has a great camp site next door and everything was quiet and relaxed.
