I saw this in my guide book and thought "Wow, staying in a castle, definitely!" It is quite modern, the room we had was a good size with a small balcony and sea view. The only thing that was a little annoying was that the doors that would have offered direct access to the pool area were locked. Breakfast was very good, a lot of choice. We had dinner once as well, which was also really nice.

The staff are amazingly helpful, the views are just beautiful and the setting so unique. I would visit again, as there is nothing I could find to criticize...and I'm not easy to please! The quietness provided a more than restful respite, and I enjoyed the 10 minute walk to town, walking along the harbor.

We enjoyed our stay here very much. The setting inside the fortress was quite unique and interesting. The staff was kind and accommodating. The room was quite nice. The restaurant was very good and the included breakfast was excellent. I removed one star because there were several small issues with the facility. Elevator out if order. Phone didn't work. I got locked in the public restroom stall. No deal breakers and the staff was very helpful. I would definitely recommend a stay here.

Five of us went to the traditional fado evening at the posada.We had great service, food and music in a great setting.The restaurant is beautiful and the views are pretty awesome.We had 2 musicians and 3 singers.I wished I understood the language but even without that, it was a great evening.Great music!!!

We enjoyed our stay. The people were very nice and helpful. The room was a good size with robes and slippers, an ocean view, hardwood floors and a good sized closet. The bed was okay but dangerous for toes. The shower/tub had lots of hot water but was slippery and hard to access (big step over). Bathroom amenities were plentiful and good quality. The heating system was adequate but slow to respond to changes in temperature. Breakfast provided eggs, fruit, yogurt, bread and lots of coffee. The walk to town/restaurants was 15 minutes. Anyone with mobility issues should seek another location.

Wenn die Störung durch andere Gäste nicht gewesen wäre, in meinen Augen wären vier Sterne möglich gewesen. Ich bin relativ überraschend an dieses Hotel gekommen. Ich hatte das Zimmer 103, nicht zu groß, überraschend positiv das Bad. Ruhe habe ich bei der Besichtigung erwartet und auch am ersten Tag genossen. Am 2. und 3. Tag waren allerdings einige rücksichtslose Gäste dabei die im Rahmen des Stierkampf Festivals hier übernachtet haben. Das Personal hat es nicht verstanden diese Gäste zur Ruhe zu ermahnen. Einmal war es in der Nacht um 2:30 Uhr und dann war es auch auf dem Gang eine unerträglich laute Unterhaltung die auf meine Ansprache im Zimmer leidet fortgesetzt wurde. Das Frühstück war üblicher Standard auf den Azoren. Ich habe mir auch die einzige Junior Suite zeigen lassen, die mich überzeugt hat und in der Nebensaison auch preislich erschwinglich gewesen wäre. Vermutlich hätte ich dieses gerne investiert um mehr Ruhe zu genießen.

Great spot
Beautiful location on the water. Nice grounds in a historic fort. Walkable to city attractions if you’re in good health and don’t mind hills. Onsite restaurant was good.
